I have a ten bolt in my 1970 chevelle it has numbers on it 1234567080 on the axel tube and below the cover con8 and l211 i cant id wether its an 8.2 or 8.5 rear end any knowledge would be hepful, and can u put a posi unti into a rear end that didnt have one initally thanks

Bobby, your right 8.5 came out in 72 some but not all models. Ive got a 72 and it it has an 8.2 inch ring gear. Keith your question about putting in a posi, yes you can, you will have to change the gear case with the 8.2 which is the size you have in a 70. I just completed a posi and gear swap in my 72, I bought an Auburn posi, and 3.73 Richmond gears, works well, alot more low and high end torque. Posi, Gears, and bearing kit $675.00 that does not include labor, but I did the swap myself saved some cash on that.:yes: Hope this helps take care.
