We just installed a chrome, 1-wire alternator. Now, the dashboard warning light for the generator is on, although dimly. I assume it is because of those extra wires that are not hooked up. Is there anything I can do about that? Thanks!

No. We just bought the car and there was no external voltage regulator.

See if the external regulator connector is touching something. The brown wire in the regulator connector is the one that works the idiot light. If it's going somewhere, the light can come on.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I didn't see a brown wire, but I'm color blind, so I had somebody else check it to make sure. There is no brown wire.

You know that plastic two-prong clip that goes into the original alt? Now, it's just hanging there. I didn't know what else to do with it. Would that cause this problem?

No, just tie it back. However, follow those wires back towards the radiator. They attach to another connector about 4 inches long. That is the regulator connector and sounds like it is touching something.
