Ok, before I start, this was my very first time running on the 1/4 and had a GREAT time! I've ran on the 1/8th a few times, and have my best et in my sig. Ok, before I show my results, I gotta admit to 3 mistakes that I did. 1., I never checked my timing. I was soo caught up in trying to finish primering my car, and getting my motor prepped to pass tech inspection that my timing totally slipped my mind. 2., After my first pass, I bumped my timing just a bit by eye balling it, and again, didn't check to see what my timing was. 3., on all of my 3 passes, I never looked at my tach to shift (well, I did once on my last pass...I held 2nd gear longer then I did fist gear), I was shifting by ear. Ok, now my results...

Pass 1.

R/T .... .085
60' .... 2.055
330 .... 5.620
1/8 .... 8.589
MPH ... 82.27
1000 .. 11.175
1/4 .... 13.366
MPH ... 102.70

One thing that I noticed was that on all three passes, I wasn't able to hook right (when I launched, all I felt was the car fish tailing from left to right as the car was moving forward). I couldn't even heat up the slicks right. When heating up the tires, I had to keep the rpms below 4500rpms or else the rear would start to swing out. I couldn't even get much smoke to come outta the slicks. On this first pass, I stalled the motor up to 1500rpms, and on the 3rd yellow I floored it.

Pass 2.

R/T ... .216
60' .... 2.136
330' ... 5.694
1/8 .... 8.739
MPH ... 80.44
1000 .. 11.362
1/4 .... 13.573
MPH ... 102.06

On this pass I decided to experiment on my launch, and instead of stalling the motor up, I launched off of idle, which caused the motor ended up bog off the line. Again, I shifted by ear, but this time, when shifting from 1st to 2nd, I missed shifted and shifted into drive. Before I make this 2nd pass, this is when I bumped my timing by eye balling it....I moved it no more then an 1/8th of an inch or so advanced.

Pass 3.

R/T ... .023
60' .... 2.003
330 ... 5.548
1/8 .... 8.526
MPH ... 82.21
1000 .. 11.122
1/4 .... 13.33.
MPH ... 101.81

On this pass, I went back to stalling the motor to 1500rpms, and lauched on the 3rd yellow. Again, when making the shift from 1st to 2nd, I shifted by ear, but this time, I ended up shifting into drive again and felt it, so I shifted it back into 2nd before the tranny shifted into drive. I took a quick glance at my tach, and noticed that I had shifted from 1st into second at roughly 4800-5000rpms, so knowing this, I held 2nd longer and shifted at roughly 5800rpms.

When I say roughly, it's hard to tell exactly what rpm I'm really at because the tach isn't accurate....yeah, I know, BUY A NEW TACH!!! LoL :D I know it's off because I've got a 6000rpm pill in my 6AL, and when I rev the motor to 6000, the rev limiter starts kicking in between 5600-5800rpms

This is the link to my 1/8th mile ets. The last pass was my best pass, and which is what I have in my sig.

I'm believing that I should be able to hit a 13 flat, by comparing the 1/8th mile times from the 1/8 mile track to yesterday's 1/8mile time. There's a difference of .3 tenths, which should equal to a 13 flat or 12.999 or so :D Also, if you look at my 1/8 mile ets and compare the MPH to yesterday's MPH, it's off by about 2mph or so. What do you guys think?

LXS......... my 1/8 mile time was 8.241 when I went 12.90 so your so close to getting into the 12.90's........ if you could get your 60' down some you could hit the 12's pretty easy:yes: ........ what gears are you running??????

LXS Great! :thumbsup:What track did you run at?

your sinkin' into the low 13's. With proper tuning and traction a 12.99 is in your future.

Whats your motor combo,drivetrain,etc?

Ran at Fontana, a.k.a. California Dragway :D Motor is a 388ci, TH350, with 4.11's out back. :)

with some tuning you should be in the 12's. Try the front shock nut trick and maybe get some adjustable uppers and box the lowers for the rear.

I need suspension, BADLY!!! Everything on my suspension, except the rear air shocks, is original from 1971!!! I'm not talking about that a suspension that's been "rebuilt" to 1971 specs, I'm talking 'bout a suspension that has not been touched, altered, upgraded since 1971!!! LoL :D Even the bushings are the factory 1971 bushings! LoL I've been wanting some better front shocks, but I figured that the originals are soo worn out, they'd benefit me better at the track then some brand new OE replacements! LoL :D I am interested in some QA1 front and rear shocks tho! :)

LXS,what heads you got on that 388? cam specs?

low 13's isn't bad at all! Yep,gotta start somewhere! Suspension is alot of the battle, the more power you make the more you gotta change suspension to help it hook..................in your case, anything could help:yes:

4.11 gears is pretty steep unless your spinning to 6k rpms....with that new tach it will help to see where your really at. With my 142bower on 355,it spins almost 5500rpms in the traps,if I went any lower of a gear I'd be over reving the poor thing. Do you think the 4.11's are too steep?

For my car? No, I don't think they're too steep. As I was getting closer to the finish line, the car felt like it kept wanting to pull, and pull harder! With my combo as is, I think I *may* be able to get away with running some 4.30s! I wouldn't go that steep, just saying :) As for my motor, heads are Bowtie heads that have been ported and polished...just not sure what they flow. I bought the motor back in '99 or so, which only lasted 3 months. The guy who built it used a STOCK dampner which in turn ended up breaking the woodruff key off the crank snout. So yeah, the engine builder had the heads and installed them for me. Oh yeah, in case your wondering, the engine builder ended up packing up, and bailed! I have no idea where he went, but he was GONE!!!! LoL It's kool tho, cause had that not happened, I probably wouldn't know anything about cars, motors, engine building etc., or very little, as I do now! As for my cam, all I know is that it has a .488" lift I/E. I lost the cam spec card back in '00 when I built the motor....I think I mixed it up with the trash I had from all of the parts and threw it away on accident. Oh well, it happens! LoL :D

Also, I think another thing that'll help drop my ets are a looser converter. Currently, I'm running a B&M Holeshot 2000. I'd like to step up to a 3000 stall, but being that I dont' know the rest of the specs of the cam, the 3000 stall can potentially hurt my ets instead of improving them.

Congrats!

There is 12's in that thing for sure. On the 13.30 passes your 60fts were 2.0s, you could easily get 1.8s out of it and go 12.90s. Suspension and converter and you have 12s. Oh yeah, get a shift light for that thing, they're fun.

Had you messed with the timing since that guy set it for you at Irwindale? If not, then it should've been pretty close.

Oh yeah, get a good mini starter for that beast and you'll be able to run whatever timing you want!

Definitely agree. Suspension tuning and tire choice is key when you're already this close to some really good numbers.

Yeah, new tach WITH shift light (cause mine is "old skool" being that it doesn't have a shift light! LoL), suspension work, shocks, converter, and good tires are a MUST! :D Yeah, unfortunatly, I did have to retard my timing when Adam helped me out and set it for me at Irwindale. It was too much timing for that stock Pep Boy's starter I was running. I've, since then, bought a mini starter from ebay. Rich (hi-po SS 454) had bought one from that seller, who has a shop and specifially builds starts, from the east coast, and recommended him to me. I've been pretty happy with it! The only time the starter has "dragged" has been when the batter has been low/dead. Other then that, the starter has not given me ANY problems whatsoever! I tried to eye ball the distributor to 36* total timing, where Adam had advanced it to. I have no idea if I hit that mark, but yeah, that's what I tried to do, LoL :D

I think if you change your worn shocks in front to at least a 70/30 drag shock or even some sort of adjustable and swap the air shocks on the rear to an adjustable, you don't have to go high dollar ones and work on your burn out, you would be in the 12s. If your not concerned about cornering too fast and if you still have your front sway bar on, take it off. Great job though! You'll get it.
