I prefer the exaust ports and oil drain backs on the 049s. It looks more like a hi po head from GM. Yet, fully done up with enlarged valve seats and stuff, you wouldnt notice much difference. Like slakr says, its all about the better set of castings, and core shift is a key component of that .

I can summarize, bring a exhaust and intake gasket to line up with the cores to see if there is any shift.

OH, and I wasted $150 on 049s off a boat motor. ( unknown to me) The water jackets will never stop corroding . One of Mark's first tips in the video. I used them to practice porting.

Good price. I paid same at Chevellebration many moons ago. Only issue was a helicoil I didnt catch.
