      this pump requires a regulator to set the fuel pressure going to the carb inlet
      a pressure gauge would be most useful for this also
      this pump is likely pushing 9+psi into the needle+seat on carb
      this pressure is keeping the valve open allowing raw gas into the engine
      you would want about 5-6.5psi of fuel pressure at carb inlet...
