They did it to send a message. Notice how the one cool car was front and center for the cameras. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a big problem over there. From now on more people will probably pay their import “taxes” in the form of bribes to connected local officials.
How dare they not pay taxes . Based on personal experience, having seen a big tax hit and how the money is subsequently wasted I could relate to the resistance to pay.
Perhaps Duterte is sending a much stronger message to those who choose to break the law. The "value" of these cars is minuscule compared to the effect that it will have in compelling citizens to anti-up in taxes.
I wonder how the world would react if he had seized a rare Rembrandt Painting and destroyed it?
