Hello,
First of all I want to compliment you on a fantastic and informative site.
While looking for correct parts to restore my 1969 Chevelle steering wheel, I have searched sites and forums and come up against a inconsistency.
I was wondering if you could help me out with a question regarding the deluxe steering wheel and standard steering wheel for the 1969 model year.
I noticed that the deluxe wheel was never implemented in 1969, according to information from the Camaro Research Group.

CRG Research Report - Steering Wheels

After looking at the part numbers, I notice that the reproduction wheels available from OEM are using the part numbers for the deluxe steering wheel. Part numbers are in picture attached.

Why would they not use the part numbers of the standard steering wheels for reproduction?
Do you know what the difference would have been between the standard wheel and deluxe if they had both been used?
Also I have noticed that most of the wheels i have seen have the number 9747408 on them. Do you know what this number is?
Thank you everyone.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the numbers OEM uses. To the best of my knowledge, there were only three different type steering wheels available on 69 Chevelles. The standard wheel was available in several colors, depending on model and interior color. Early model year production optional 'wood' steering wheel was a walnut appearing wheel, with a fairly shallow dish. Later model year production optional 'wood' wheel was a rosewood appearing wheel, with a slightly deeper dish.

But to further complicate matters, some of the standard wheels had a pebble grain texture on the face of the rim, and some did not. There were also differences in the center shroud, again dependent on model and interior color. There was no 'wood grain' on any Chevelle center shrouds, as there was on some Camaros, Impalas, and Caprices.
