Ive got a 1971 Chevelle SS and out of nowhere my driver door has a sag when opening It , maybe 3/16" . There Is absolutly no play In my hinges and they dont appear to have shifted . So I guess my question Is , how could this be explained , and second , best way to deal with It . I Imagine Im gonna have to adjust It back up slightly . Can this be done w/o messing up my paint ? Ive read this requires a special wrench to get In there . Best to adjust the top one or will both hinges need to be adjusted ? Thanks guys

You are right, hinge pins don't suddenly wear. A very small shift of the hinges would not be noticeable at the pillar but would cause a 3/8" sag. I would put a floor jack under the door at the rear and give it a lift. If the hinges are allowing movement the jack will shift the hinges back and the door should be back in position with the jack removed. If that works then you have to figure how to get at the bolts attaching the hinges to the A post tighter.

I’m not sure about jacking up the door to see if it moves the hinges, a light upward lifting pressure from you to see if the pins are worn is the most I would do, a jack may put to much pressure on them and damage the bushings. In the 67 Fischer manual the wrench is detailed, it’s a custom tool they fabricated up. They do have dimensions. Easily done with an old scrap wrench and a torch to heat it up and bend it. You do have to loosen up the fender. Not sure if this is what your talking about..
