The COPO car needed a full restoration which would be hugely expensive unless I did most of the work myself. I had been doing bits and pieces. The L78 car had a CE engine but had an otherwise original drivetrain. Both guys wanted them a lot worse than we did. My old body doesn't much like crawling over and under cars and it lets me know. Money in the bank and a virtually brand new car just seemed right for us at this time. I'm 66 so, with just summer driving, it will probably last us the rest of our driving days. It is a real pleasure to drive. The Chevelles were too but in a completely different way. I'd still like this drivetrain under a Chevelle. That would be ideal.

I saw your comment on the green SD396 Beaumont. Yes, I would love to have that car back. In '66 I bought a new 283 SD Beaumont and traded it with a guy for the Green 396 four speed car a year and a half later. I've kept an eye out at car shows and cruise nights, but no luck. With the added L78 solid lifter cam, it sounded and performed reasonably well. Over the winter we sold our L78 Chevelle to a guy in Langley, B.C. and the COPO car will be going to Calgary in September. As they say, money talks. When the dust settled, we had a 13K mile 2005 six speed Corvette. That car has been more than a pleasant surprise. It is comfortable, goes like stink and best of all it gets 35+ mpg on the highway. Now, if I could just find a Chevelle with that LS2 engine and Tremec six speed, I'd be interested.
