Re: 68-72 el camino PROFLOW4 AND EFI TANK INSTALL

Use caution with the Tanks, Inc "armless" cylinder style of sending unit if you chose that style of sender. They recently had to send me a new one under warranty because it is electrically delicate if you accidentally hook it up wrong. It's all good now but dropping that tank and redoing it all again was something I would have liked to avoid.

Re: 68-72 el camino PROFLOW4 AND EFI TANK INSTALL

First of many pics.

Tanks inc tank arrived today as did the pf4 system. I can tell right now that the pass side fuel rail hookup isnt going to fit behind the 96-2000 GM serp belt system. Im going to have to move the cross over to the front and inlet with sensor to back but we shall see when I test fit.

I saw that and the instructions are kind of vague as well.

Re: 68-72 el camino PROFLOW4 AND EFI TANK INSTALL

In case no one has figured it out. When you order an EFI tank it comes with baffling.

Also,
when using a OEM style tank and setting up the pump assembly notice that the wires wont come through directly and could get pinched as you pull them through the top to take out slack so be careful. You wouldn't have this issue as bad with a deeper tank.

I hard wired mine in. Where do you find those connectors? I want to start using them for other things in my car including rewiring the fuel pump. I think I need different crimpers for them though right?

I can say my set up with different from Tanks Inc.
I have the 400lph pump and it has been awesome. I do have the arm style sending unit and it hasn't given any issues either, I was surprised it was accurate.

electrical connections are from PICO. Yes you need a crimp tool but those are cheap at harbor freight or you can get them a PICO as well on line. Many PICO items are at car part house like car quest but i have the luxury of being right next door to the PICO factory here in Oregon and I know the owner.

Oh nice!
I have MSD crimpers, I wonder if I can use a different set of dies.
I will take a look.

correct. They are only good to about 10 awg wire and thats pushing it for those little clamps to grab on the male part of the weatherpack bullets. I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than 12 awg.

Re: 68-72 el camino PROFLOW4 AND EFI TANK INSTALL

I installed the same tank/pump in my '69 elco with plans to go to efi someday in the future, looks like someday will now be as soon as the 383 is back from the machine shop rather than waiting. Planning on the Pro Flo 4 XT instead of the Pro Flo curious as to your thoughts on the two different systems. Also did you use the vent built into the tank or the one on the pump?

It is up to you what and what you prefer, I do believe the xt will require a cowl hood. I have one in mine.
Also, My vent is built into my pump assembly if I remember correctly.

I like the look of the XT, but to each their own.

you have the XT, and had a cowl hood already or you had to add the cowl hood? looking at it I thought (hoped) it would fit without it, I don't have a cowl hood.
