Buyer Beware...

I have just been informed by a supplier that they have been dropped by a customer of over 30 years. The supplier/mfg had not had a PO from this long term customer in over 5 months for distributor gears that they have supplied the industry with for decades. Made here in the USA, these distributor gears have been trusted on the product that they were installed on. Made from Ampco45 and Melonite coated cast iron, these gears came in .491/.501" shaft diameter and were available in oversize.

After multiple calls to the customer to see what was deal was, the supplier was informed that the customer had sourced gears "Landed" for much less. Now the supplier was given the opportunity to match the price but when the "LANDED" price is less than what the material cost how can you.

So a little heads up. All the gears made by the US supplier are marked. Look for numbers on gears. If you don't see any numbers on the gear BUYER BEWARE!!!

Why is it we never have time or money to do it the right way in the beginning but we always have time and money to do it over again?

Re: Buyer Beware...

So the supplier makes US sourced distributor gears and has been dropped by a distributor builder for an offshore (presumable Chinese) supplier of distributor gear.

You didn't say this. I am confirming that I got the point.

Re: Buyer Beware...

Assuming the "customer" is one of the big catalog houses?

Re: Buyer Beware...

It sounds more like a company that would sell to the catalog houses, in other words a company whose stuff you could buy from a catalog house.

Correct. It is a national brand in our industry.

Re: Buyer Beware...

Sounds like something a Memphis based company would do, and why I longer use their junk.
