So got a slipper clutch valve installed. This is from clutch tamer, it is the hydraulic version. I went against the grain of the instructions on this one and didn’t install a 2nd Stage bypass valve. What that means is the slipper system will be active throughout all gear changes. With that said I modified the master cylinder with the lightest return spring as possible, relying on the pressure plate to push the pedal back. Hopefully this will not allow a hydraulic pump up of the clutch system.

The reasoning for this is so it will maintain rpm through the shift points better. Looking over my data logs the rpm was all over the place between shifts. Mount location is just below the steering column. Out of the away and from heat sources. Hopefully this works out well for me, I don’t expect to have to “slip” the clutch much given the nature of the build.

Brake upgrades. Changed out my old hydro-boost for another one. This one has a larger reservoir canister. After blowing the motor and loosing all brake power I figured this will help. As well the master cylinder upgrade, I wanted more breaking power so hopefully this helps. This is a 34mm (1.338) bore master cylinder. Should do the trick. As well wired in the low brake fluid switch to the “brake” warning light in the car, worked out good. Completed new stainless lines down to the distribution block. Master cylinder is from a Cadillac Deville with 8lug J55 brakes. More or less limos.

Managed to build a second fuel line for the dual pump assembly. Ran a second pressure line including filter. Don’t mind the tube work, it’s probably my worst stuff, built it out of old bent up fuel around the shop in 3hrs. Second pressure line got a fuel filter as well, these Aeromotive ones are pretty compact with next to nothing for flow restriction. Taylor 409 race wire loom holders work great for keep the lines in place and clamping them. Going with a 2 pump assembly as the tank opening won’t support a triple setup. Dual 340 pumps into the B-body gas tank swap. As well fuel level float. Stay tuned for a update on that.

As well I relocated the vacuum pump catch can(s). I went with a second this time. One was not enough and spitting out a lot of oil for road driving so by adding a second I am hoping that this will eliminate the problem. The original problem was oil was making it past the filter, despite me re-packing the catch can with more steel fiber. As well there relocated to the passenger side wheel well, this will be a lot easy to drain when driving to locations, just reach under, turn the drain and dump onto a spill mat or pan.

Well got my torque plate situation figured out. My Machiniest didn’t have a 4.500” bore torque plate as he doesn’t do anything this large. So I picked one up from summit on a sale for $200. Had a friend on mine machine up some spacers for the head bolts and good to go now.

Second reason I bought a torque plate was for setting ring gaps. If you believe in the process for machining then you should do the same for setting ring gaps, or at least that’s the theory!

So while I am waiting for the connecting rods, build up a win date tray. This is full length. Can set height based off the arp studs, pretty tight all around. Clearances vary from .125-.200. Overall I am happy with how it turned out and should be exceptionally functional, with something like this I doubt a personal would need a crank scraper.

Well that turned out pretty decent, dual fuel pump on a stick! So this assembly is for the B-Body gas tank swap I did sometime ago. The test fit was a success into the small 3” opening. Now to build the hanger assembly.

Just as a side note B-Body gas tank mod was one of the better things I did to the car. Holds 23-24gal fuel, great for range driving. It is extremely well baffled in the inside. Made of HDPE plastic, very light for it size, probably lighter than aluminum. In tank pump(s) is always quieter than anything else possible. Even though I am efi now I did run a carb with the Aeromotive 340. Return system plumbed in already and proper roll over vent. And with the ability to run 2 and stage them on makes this a perfect fit.

Sweet Canadian maple syrup!

Parts are finally here, hitting the machine shop on Monday to get this rolling. Will need to do some clearance on the block for the additional stroke and larger rods. These Icon Pistons totally blew me away, did not expect these too look this nice. 2618 alloy. Same with the rods, dimensionally they are 20% larger than the stock 502 ones. Eagle rates these for 1000hp @ 8000rpm. D Vizard and other forum member have told me the stockers can do 800hp without to much problems, so the numbers match up.

Dual fuel pump assembly completed. So this is 2-340 pumps on a stick. 2-heavy duty wiring setups. And includes fuel sender, a lot of the dual pump assemblies don’t include the fuel sender unless it is separate. Should be enough juice to support 1200hp which the sniper is capable of. 2 pressure lines, 1 return, 1 remote vent (roll over style). The second pump will be staged ONCE by either a certain TPS, Boost, or RPM value. Which ever is triggered first, it will kick the pump on.

Couple more pictures. Wish I could find this same tank in steel. Be a lot easier for modifications like this.

Small wiring update:

Flush mounted boost arm button under the dash. This will activate the solenoids to modulate boost pressure, activate the secondary fuel pump, run the boost curve, and maybe a couple other functions if need be.

Clutch activated 2-step switch as well neutral safety start switch. The 2 step one will be on all the time pending set rpm point. Tag this up with the clutch tamer and boost vs rpm curve and it should be a deadly combo for leaving the line. Neutral safety start switch, pretty self explaining there.

Small update.

Decided to put in a shift light. Turns out the Holley super sniper has a programmable output trigger wire that is rpm based. Decided this is a good idea. The light was installed with a plug-in so that when cruising around it doesn’t need to be on the column. Again the shift light is activated by the all mighty ‘arming switch’. Going to need a better name for this switch. Not too sure if I am sticking with the red light, I do have a amber lease for it. Only reason I say that is my dash warning lights are red.

In the future I see this shift light being removed and tied into the original wiring harness for one of the other original lights in the dash.

Out with the old and in with the new. Installed new bushings in the diff housing. The old energy suspension ones just weren’t up to the task anymore. The steel housing hand moved a bit. Overall at the time they pressed in good but compared to the new it was horrible. Further to that the inner bushing material was squeezing out and causing a lot of binding.

So now in with the new. Currie Johnny joints. I will say these things are awesome. The fit is way better, and the free movement now should help with generally everything rear suspension related. Tag this up with the deep rock adjustable upper control arms and there Johnny joints it’s all good. Bonus, you can rebuild these things as well.

Re: Boosted Beaumont Build

I installed a small shift light in my dash. Certainly not as bright as a proper shift light but it does the trick and keeps the dash looking pretty stock. You can see what I did here.

Well she is bagged. Last couple of drag/race week events I was using footballs for airbags. Ironically the shape of them made them very progressive rate and didn’t require deflating. BUT they did leak ever 2 days and I was cranking them up to 25psi. Pretty sure there limited to 15psi. They worked great in a jam but time to modernize hah.

Air lift bags installed. These are good for 1000lbs extra capacity. With tires, tools, spare parts, cloths, Jack, Jack stands, tent, chairs, cooler, etc in the back it’s got to be an extra 500lbs in the trunk. So this should help, hopefully these hard plastic bags don’t effect the suspension set to much when racing. Most likely will pull the fill valves so there is free range movement.
