Re: Boosted Beaumont Build
well its running!!!
The holley sniper system, all I can say is WOW. what a drastic difference. The camshaft in this motor is a hydro roller at 650ish lift, needles to say now it is smooth as silk. For a stick car I can idle/cruise around at 1500rpm or lower. Before this would never happen.
As for the whole turbo setup, I got some tuning to do.... I think. The power doesn't feel as near as strong/aggressive compared to my NA setup. Many say that with a turbo setup the power is completely different, more smoother and linear vs all at once. It leaves slow and drives straight, doesn't spin a tire. I would think with higher boost levels it would completely destroy the drag radials. This could be from having the chassis setup better than originally though, but you never know. I need to keep in mind some critical points with all this as the RPM range has dropped 1000 over the entire board, 30lb flywheel vs 13lb, and EFI.
I started at 3, 5, 7, & now at 12 psi. Boost starts to generate at about 18-2000 rpm and I reach max boost at any set pressure for 3000rpm, so it comes on fairly quick. I am thinking I don't have the timing aligned with the sniper numbers currently. a double check will be required. I will also need to get my bench mark buddy out and do a couple of pulls, see who really is in front.
As for the rest of the system it works great. The A to A intercooler is only 5-10F above ambient when running through the gears. The temperature just sites between 180-190 all the time. 6th gear on the highway is much more usable. At about 65mph I am turning 2-2200rpm, I could pass nothing with a carburetor. Now it just sails by whatever you want without downshifting.
Overall I am happy with the setup, just need to get a handle on the power thing and if I am missing something.
Some items I need to finish before race week is wrapping the exhaust, fixing some small leaks, and smooth out the sniper tune. At this point I will be at Race Week!!!
