New guy - 8/71 Blown 68 Pro Streeter

I've recently purchased this 68, and it's being shipped at the moment. I am going crazy waiting for it to arrive!

After many years of Fords and Mercurys, here's my first Chev.
Has anyone see it before?

496 BBC with an 8/71 BDS blower. Good street engine - nothing too radical.
T400, 9" with 4 link.
Global West A-Arms and coil overs in front
Alston back half in rear
18x7 and 20x15 Coys

I've been searching through hundreds of pages of great information throughout Chevelles.com. I was really glad to see the excellent opinions on the Pro Touring/Street forums, so I think I've found my new place to hang out!

That's awesome, saying its beautiful is a major understatement!

I love the not too radical 496 with 8-71 blower

Do you have any more pictures of it?

Re: New guy - 8/71 Blown 68 Pro Streeter

Thanks for the comments. It's going to take between 4 and 5 weeks for the car to arrive...

Steve S - when I say not too radical, I'm comparing it to the countless 1000+hp motors that are getting around these days. This is a Big Al's street engine, which I think would be lucky to push 700. Here's a small block street car that I have that is making over 1000 on pump gas, but it's running on the edge while a 700hp big block will live forever:

Here are some more shots of the 68. The beauty of buying what someone else built is that I can point out things that I like without sounding like I'm full of myself! There is a lot to like about the car, as it seems to have been really well planned and executed. What I like in this shot is that you can't see a single electrical wire. (OK, except for where they attach to the coil...!) Oh yeah, and the blower looks OK

20x15 tucks a fair way up into the fender:

4 Link:

Room for the golf clubs and suitcases:

Carbon fiber Autometer gauges look good, but I'll have to wait and see what the billet style dash looks like in the flesh. Carpet looks a bit short up the firewall too...!

I love this photo - that you can see the coil overs, the Baer brakes, 4 link, the big rims tucked under the fender, and even that you can see the car has been driven by the exhaust soot on the paint!

Re: New guy - 8/71 Blown 68 Pro Streeter

Thanks for the welcome.
Steve - not sure about the dash yet, but I'm hoping that there are build sheets and a bunch of receipts coming out with the car. It's a recent build, so all/most documentation should be there. Once I know, I'll let you know.

Mike - yep, you have to love a big block with an 8/71! I only have the Edelbrock carbs, so I'm wondering about making a change there. The laws over here are really tough, and I simply can't legally drive the car with the engine as high as it is. I'm thinking about going with the BDS EFI bugcatcher conversion to drop the overall height down, then looking at what size cowl hood would be needed to cover that. I already have an M800 Motec ECU, so the cost of the other parts shouldn't be too bad.

I would love to change over to fuel injection,, but it cost like 5K to convert over.

It might fit under a 4" cowl hood or probably the 6" cowl. I dont know if they make a bolt on 6" cowl hood for the chevelle.

Very nice. Thats my opinion of how a pro-street car should look. Low, and very clean. You have a winner!!

Thats cool, must be a super fun car to drive and a great car to own, and after seeing more pictures of the Chevelle I stand by what I said before, that is beautiful!
