Re: 1967 138 Project

Does he want a race car or a street car to take to the track? A competitive race cars, at least around here, can be cheap, often in the $10,000 range. If he wants a safe race car to make runs at grudge nights and T&T's probably $8,000-$10,000. You generally want to look on some of the local tracks Facebook pages or go the the track and ask around. Craigslist is about the worst place to look for racecars. Someone might be willing to trade, if not he can get a good idea of how much money he will need. Remember, racecars are priced differently than street cars don't overpay.

Good luck.

Re: 1967 138 Project

Good points.
I don't think he's really firmed up what he wants to build yet. The guy just loves to build engines. He grew up in a shop owned by his grand dad and was the 3rd generation owner. His dad was the "office guy" until he passed away. After that he couldn't bring himself to carry on. He doesn't have kids so he went to work for a big auto manufacturing contractor.

He just wants to build a fast car because he misses it. If he takes it to the track, it'll be drags. Probably some sort of modified street class or nostalgia thing, depending on what he ends up with. We've got buddies that race all kinds of stuff, so he could end up with anything.

He's not much of a computer guy, so it's my assignment to find out what this thing is worth and get it posted on various sites.

I think I'll start it out around 8500 ish or trade and see what pops up. It'll obviously be up to him what he does from there.

Unless he's going to answer the call and do the negotiations himself don't go the trade route. Maybe help him clean it up for one day some weekend, wash it, bolt on the hood the seats and bumpers. Then do an auction on eBay with a reserve based on the minimum price he'd accept. If he is looking for a trade he needs to be in charge of that process, help him set up an ad with his contact information.

That's the plan. We'll try CL and FB first with him as the contact(after I screen through the forwarded message to get rid of crackpots). If that doesn't go well, we'll do ebay classified, then try auction.

I appreciate the input.

You should do a bit of research on that engine before listing. The casting # come up as 65-66 and early 67 396, or 427, 2, or 4 bolt mains. It might be something special, or not.

Will do. So I guess it's from a 66 Impala.
Would there be anything stamped that's more specific? Heads maybe?
It was rebuilt and has been on that stand for years.

Re: 1967 138 Project

Just did a search, looks like those were in Chevelle, Vette, "passenger car" and trucks.

Next time I'm out there, I'll check the pad and the back.

It'll be weird if it turns out to actually be the orig engine.

Thanks!

As long as the title matches the door tag. It is an SS. 761 - bench seat black imitation leather. Looks like it needs a floor, are you up for all that? I need an OEM hood
