Is the 8 track player an indash 8track with radio ? or is it an underdash standalone unit ?
I would think the in-dash 8 track is the more valuable piece but I'm just a fan not an expert.
It looks like the deck is in the dash. AM vs AM/FM makes a big difference. It looks like a mono dash so I'm guessing AM. A used AM/FM 8 track stereo goes in the $1000. range. AM is usually around half of that. If it's really NOS I think it would be worth a 25% premium at least. The actual dash and pad will be worth a lot to someone doing a concourse resto. I don't know how much though.
It came with a car I bought a 70 SS 396 4spd project car numbers matching. Guy that had the car since 73 and took it off the road in 76 started getting parts.
Dash box has 3999456 on it in marker and GM tag for parts dept on it. Radio is amfm and is made by Audiovox so not sure about this. And cluster looks brand new too as does actual dash. I just got this.
That's what I'm not sure of. They seem like they need to be in a LS6 convertiable or something very rare or more rare that a ss396. Curious on the value and if the radio is origional.
The Audiovox is definitely not OE. The $1000. I estimated was for an original 1970 factory AM/FM 8 track. I agree with everyone else that the dash is valuable.
I'd say both those estimates are on the low side...I'd say $350-$400 for the pad & at least $1250-$1500 for the dash with gauges.
It would take that much for me to part them...maybe more if I had a car to use them in. Which brings me back to my point...I would keep these parts, at least until that '70 is restored.
Now to see how I feel about my deal on the car. What does everyone think the car is worth I got. SS 396 4 spd have numbers matching engine, trans, and rearend. Floors and trunk are mint but needs quarters and fenders. Build sheet, have all the correct SS wheels, interior is complete. What's it worth, missing dash assembly 😟
The items will bring more if you separate them. The dash cluster being NOS should be worth around $950-$1100, dash housing $650-$800, dash pad $450-$550 and radio $70-$100. If you are in a hurry prices cheaper.. If you want a value stick them on eBay...
as to the value there's a stereo dash pad by itself for $375. in the temporary classifieds so you have that plus the dash assembly with gauges plus its NOS.......IMO that would be an easy $1K maybe more.
BUT what's your SS396 dash going to cost to restore ????
As it was stated. The Dash carrier is for a 1972,, ( It has the " FASTEN SEAT BELT ")= 1972................ The gauge panel is also ( to me , They look like WHITE LETTERS & NUMBERS.... White letters & numbers = 1971/72.
AM/FM radio= Audiovox ( reproduction fitz/all radio)=NON-G.M.
Dash pad.............. For a MONO radio or a NON A/C- 70-72 Velle.
.............................................................................................................
The bottom line is- NO Dash carrier, NO Gauge Pkg., NO AM/FM radio for a 1970 Chevelle!...............:crying:
The owner has some GOOD STUFF to sell!.....
Bob
Are the gauges also NOS or is it just the bezel? Lenes looked kinda cloudy.
Guess it has been determined to be for a 72. Noticed the tach is redlined at 5600. Did all 72s have the same redline?
