HD 3 speed

Thinking about selling my HD Borg Warner T16 3 speed out of 66 SS, M13 option. Has all complete linkage and shifter. Wondering what a fair price would be for it.

Re: HD 3 speed

I DO NOT want to be negative, but unless someone needs if for an absolute correct, numbers matching restoration, I'm afraid the demand is going to be very low, thus, a somewhat low value.
It seems that 4spds, such as Muncies, are even going way down in demand and value.
The big trend is to 5-6spd OD manual transmissions or OD automatics.
I hate to see that trend, but that seems to be how it is.

If I had a 55-57 Chevy that was an original 3sp car, I'd jump on it just so that it would have a fully syncro 3sp on the column.

Our 70 Malibu conv was originally a 3sp on the column, and it would be parfect for it. BUT, alas, I've already converted the 70 to a Muncie.

Re: HD 3 speed

Unless it's taking up room in your shop/garage that you absolutely need, or the $200 you might get for it will change your life, you're better off keeping it around.

Re: HD 3 speed

Honesty, I'd seriously consider putting one back in mine since it is really just a nostalgia mobile. But I would want to add an overdrive or something like 2.73:1 rear. It would suck at every stop sign, but be fine around town and highway. BUT, I wouldn't spend much to do it.

Re: HD 3 speed

no clue when it comes to 3 speeds, but the 3 speed that came out of my 66 sold for $30 I threw in the bell housing. if I had a manual trans project car without a trans, I would use something like what you have to get it running. jim

Re: HD 3 speed

There are some forms of low-dollar circle track racing where three-speed manuals are the transmission of choice. That's the only place I can think of where there might be demand for them.

Re: HD 3 speed

Although undesirable, it is indeed heavy duty and an excellent transmission. The shifter alone is worth about $200 because everyone through them away.

I had a chance to buy one at a swap meet for $25 and turned it down because it was too heavy to cart out.

Re: HD 3 speed

Is that the transmission everybody was using in the early sixties when those BW 4 speeds were blowing up? I remember this guy in my alley changing his four speed to a heavy duty three speed in his 62 Bel Air Bubble top after going through three four speeds..

Re: HD 3 speed

I'd advertise it on a 68-72 chevy truck forum, the 3 spd that came out of my 67 camaro went into one back in 1975-6
