1970 ss ls5 454

Hi everyone,

I found a local LS5 1970 Chevelle with a 4 speed. How much are these worth? Iím thinking 45-60k, if not a clone. Iíve really wanted a 70! Thanks!

James, not too sure about this car, if you check it out here are a few things to note:
Photo all:
1.) Acquire Vin #.
2.) Acquire Block casting, date as well as engine stamp and suffix stamp.
3.) Photo cowl body tag.
4.) Transmission numbers.
5.) Rear end stamp and casting #'s.
6.) Dash has been altered, almost looks like 72' dash with seat belt warning, can't see it well.
7.) Engine bay altered, electric fan(s), non ci air cleaner, etc.
8.) Original hood? CI hood. Check under car for details.

Right now this is a non-bonified SS, how do you know it's an LS5? Depending on all of the above car could be anywhere in price range. Depending on sheet metal- Right now with what I see and what I can't see: prob-25-30K tops.

1970-LS5, #28- Fathom Blue,TH400, original motor car.
1970- NOM, 496, M21, #48 Forest Green.
1972- Malibu, 350. TH350- original motor car, #43 Gulf Green.

Re: 1970 ss ls5 454

From what I found the earliest LS5 Chevelle was built with a 12C 1969, correct? This one appears to be a September 1969 correct?

Re: 1970 ss ls5 454

9C is the third week of September. The earliest known LS5 left the factory the November 28, 1969 from the Oshawa Canada plant. My LS5 left Kansas city Leeds plant December 4, 1969. Mine had been the earliest known until last year when the Canadian car showed up here. It still hasn't been listed in the registry, last time I checked with Dale McIntosh who runs the registry.

The date code on the tag is when the car started on the assembly line. The shipping date is when it left the factory. The shipping date can be acquired from NCRS, who owns those records.

The digit in the code is the month and the letters correspond to the weeks of the month. A first week B, second and so on.

Itís a clone then! Thanks fellas! I will keep hunting. He said heíd take 30k for it, which seems on the high end for a clone.
