Bullitt Mustang to go across block on Friday

I read the Bullet Mustang (the unrestored one) will be going across the block at Mecum this Friday.

Thoughts about how much it will bring?

The car was extensively toured last year including a month long stint at the huge local Car museum here in Tacoma- I'm sure many wealthy collectors got a chance to check it out along the way... wonder where it will wind up.

Mecum had a special on that. Said Steve McQueen tried on more than one occasion to buy it back, but owner declined...

If not for its history I'd say 10-12K. But...
I've read that it may be the most expensive Mustang ever to cross the block.
Some saying seven figures.

I think that part (not the part where they wouldn't sell it back to him though) is such a cool part of the story... even though in '78 when he sent that letter it was just an 11 year old car and he was rich and could have had any other car he wanted- he knew this ONE was something special to him and he wanted to get it back.

Just like so many of us hunting down our long lost cars we regret letting slip away.

>>he knew this ONE was something special to him<<

...or the original owner realized that if Steve wanted this car back, it would eventually pay for all the kids and grand kids college education (and then some)

Some are saying it will set a record for most expensive muscle car at auction ever, est. $3.5 mil. We'll see.

I, for one, am glad the owner didnt sell it to a car collector as part of a "portfolio" and drove the car as it was intended. Money ruins more scheiss than it makes better. Line 'em up.

Hot Rod or Hemmings MCR had an article on this recently.

Couldn't agree more! This icon was exposed wonderfully by the owner's son. I sure hope it gets purchased by an owner that displays it to the public, not his inner circle.

Right? I think their stewardship was iconic. Hey, maybe more folks will get to see the car now. Some hope.

Its only for sale because the other (presumed dead) mustang jumper car was found recently and currently being restored so seller is worried the pie slice will be smaller because of competing sales when the other one gets finished.

That’s an incorrect assumption.

Oh really, whats your theory? You trying to tell me the other car running consecutive to this car isnt going to harm its value?

Re: Bullitt Mustang to go across block on Friday

The seller isn't stupid. He appears to be a man of honor also and it's inaccurate to assume this is all for monetary gain.
So, this begs the question, what would you do in his position?
