Matching Numbers Expert Needed 70 LS6 454

Newbie here. My buddy wants to sell me his LS6 SS 454 Chevelle. He has owed it for 20 years but needs to raise some cash, and says the engine is matching numbers. Question, does the engine stamping appear to be original? It's a nice #2 4-speed car in cranberry. What is something like this worth?
Thanks.

Shouldn't the first number in the smaller VIN stamping begin with a "1" for chevrolet and not a "7"?

Can you get a better picture of the stamp? The vin should start with 10K not 70K. Without seeing some better pictures I would say it is not good. The picture of the stamp also shows a tacky fuel line with rubber hose and clamps. Is that how the rest of the car was put together?

Good catch and the VIN font was larger.

That's the best picture I have but I can blow it up quite large on my computer as its a large file. It's 70K, no question.

You might want to let your friend know that all is not well with his car. If he sells it to someone claiming it is real and then they come knocking on his door looking for their money back because it is not real it may put him in a real jam. Better he knows now. Does he have any documents to go with the car to say it was an LS6 to start with?

I don't know. Pretty sure he doesn't have the tank decal otherwise he would have mentioned it.

This link shows several KC examples and they all start with 10k and are upside down.

Think the paint code on the trim tag (75 75) indicates all Cranberry Red with no vinyl top.

Re: Matching Numbers Expert Needed 70 LS6 454

Welcome to Chevelles Forum!

If this car is a genuine LS6/4 speed car, it could be worth quite a bit-but it would be scrutinized pretty closely to confirm it. How many miles on it? Any modifications?

It's said the build sheet is often on top of the gas tank in a Leeds built car. It could also be between the seat cushions and springs or under the carpet. It would go a long way proving it's authenticity.

Also, the date code on the engine block and date and other codes on the rear end and transmission.

Can you post more pics for all to see? Full engine compartment, intake & exhaust manifolds, carb number, fuel pump & fuel lines would help.

Does your friend know the history of the car? Did he get it from the original owner? Was it painted?

This car was likely built the day before or the same day as my cranberry red LS6. My VIN is 145830. Nice looking car.

My cars Vin is 145830 and was shipped January 9th. I’d think that a January 6th built engine would not be possible in a car that was built earlier than mine. Still a nice looking car though.
