Claude.
The OP asked for a critical review of the car. He didn't ask for a sugar coated review. Sometimes it's easier to see what's good in a car than it is to see what's not with cars like that, especially for a novice.

My suggestion is to let the people that know what they're talking about, point out what's wrong with this thing like the OP wanted and stop derailing the post.

Re: Opinions on this 70SS

And what is right and wrong with the car does have a bearing on the (supposed) value of the car.

I didn't take anything you said personally. I read what you had to say about every time someone ask for opinions about a car here that all they get is criticism about the car. If someone comes here asking for opinions about what is right or wrong about a car, why shouldn't they get answers? And how is pointing out incorrect items considered "hate" comments? I think the reason it "strikes" you "every time" one of these threads comes up is because you have some kind of chip on your shoulder because of criticisms that you have told us about receiving in the past. I personally think your car with all of the chrome in the the engine bay is a beautiful car. It's obvious that you are not going for a factory stock look and that is great if that is what you prefer. For someone that likes a stock appearance, it may not be their preference. So what, why does it matter if someone has a different opinion? You sound like it really bothers you that some people appreciate a factory correct car. And for some reason, the discussion about what is correct or not really gets you upset.

Re: Opinions on this 70SS

If the OP is serious he could probably get this car for 35-40K after a close up inspection confirms the details. In that price range I think its a good car and a good investment. I don't think it's in the price range where you can start discounting or doubting the restoration quality because of possibly incorrect brackets and bolts, that's applicable once you get into the 60+K group. I wouldn't be discouraging the OP because of the idiot light dash and column shift. Hey, it has a BUILD SHEET, that's the way it was born, and it's amazing after 49 years nothing has been changed! Seasoned enthusiasts take particular notice of documented, unchanged but oddly optioned cars since there has to be a story of why it was ordered that way. This adds a special degree of provenance and rarity. If the car is as good as presented, I would buy it for this reason alone.

Re: Opinions on this 70SS

Concerning the car in question, the seller is basically asking $50k and is representing it as a full blown restoration. At that price point, heck at ANY price point, if you are claiming the car is restored to original all the nitty gritty little details better be right or people will question the quality of the restoration and thus the validity of the asking price and/or the price offered will reflect the misses. It really isn't that hard to get the details right and info on what is correct is readily available. Some things missed on so many cars are just bleeding obvious to almost anyone.

And yes Virginia, cars with all the desirable options are worth more all other things considered equal because that is what more people want. Supply and demand and all that jazz.

Re: Opinions on this 70SS

Just my $.02 I see 35k tops. It says the car was "restored" 1500 miles ago.. Nothing about how long ago. From what I am seeing, it was given a decent, not great paint job, I can see dozens of flaws in the paint, look past the shine and you will see a lot of orange peel, dirt in it etc. The bottom of the car looks like it was most likely pressure washed and spray can restored. It is a decent car but not a $50k car. for $50k I would at least expect the hood stripes to be even across the front of the hood and a master cylinder/brake booster that wasn't rusted to hell. Again, just my opinion.

Didn’t mean to stir the hornets nest up!

I want a car that is pretty correct and nice looking. Anything too damn perfect and I feel like you lose a lot of the driveability and spend too much time worrying about keeping it perfect, instead of doing what these machines were meant to do.

I do absolutely appreciate the input. Critical or otherwise. Everyone has had Something to add.

Finding a build sheet car, numbers matching is important to me, because I feel the long term appreciation will always out perform non original non numbers cars.

Not buying it for an investment, but I know myself well enough to know I probably will upgrade down the road at some point.

That being said , I do think ( no disrespect) that some people’s idea of what the current market should be on these cars.. and what it actually is.... tends to be two completely different things.

A true 70ss , relatively fresh restoration , number matching Chevelle for 30-35k? Maybe in 2008... but in 2019? I don’t know if I necessarily agree.

I think what people are trying to tell you is if you have $50K to spend you can get a much better car for the money than this one.

Exactly. If I had a $50k budget for a 70 SS, it wouldn't be spent on this car.

I get it... that’s reasonable. I’m actually looking to spend closer to 40. Maybe 45 max on my high end. This car can be had for 45. Most people list 10 percent over what they actually will take it seems.

Perhaps you should post it for sale in the classifieds instead of posting it twice here in a totally unrelated thread.
