Re: What is this guy smoking?

Did you read the entire ad ? Sounds like he is trying to get 500 for the entire large batch but will sell it in pieces. His listing does say "best offer" I have a good friend who is a body and paint guy and he almost always prefers to use decent used oem stuff over the aftermarket parts. This guy has 14 pieces altogether, that really is not that bad.

I was kind of thinking the same thing.

Re: What is this guy smoking?

The funniest part is he labeled the doors, fenders, and deck lid as just that.....even used the contraction "fender's".....to eliminate all confusion as to which part of the car to install them.

I read the ad. Did you look at the pictures? All of those parts have severe cancer and/or pitting. Notice that he didn't post any pics of the backsides of the fenders? I'm all for original sheetmetal, but if it's perforated with rust holes it's just not worth fixing.

Re: What is this guy smoking?

Throw away all the fenders but cut out the malibu 350 area to save for a stencil. clean up the rest of the doors and stuff and he may have a chance at selling.

Where I grew up, that's called "good clean sheet metal with minor body work required".

The trunk lid looks like a reproduction piece because the chevelle emblem holes are not in the stock location.

Re: What is this guy smoking?

I think you're being unjustly hard on this guy. I've seen similar hoods at swap meets for $250 and they get carried away to a new home. Even the fenders and doors, if you need either, there might be less restoration time in those than the time needed to get offshore reproduction crap to fit properly. There are plenty of skilled people in this hobby and everything is possible.

At least British Columbia is better than the rust belt.

The stuff does look rough, but a lower patch panel could probably save any of those fenders. Some paint stripper might have been nice, but then it would have to be primed at least, and buyers would start railing over what is hiding under the primer. To real car people the seller probably did the right thing by not fluffing them. Pictures of the back sides of the fenders would have been helpful, but then again one could always ask the seller for better pics to help get a better idea of how salvageable the parts are.

It might be a crap shoot. I'd at least rather see this stuff have a chance at rehabilitation than have it melted down & turned into a self-driving foreign car.
