1966 El Camino 327 4 Speed

Hey everyone,

Me again, I have an opportunity to purchase what I think is a pretty cool car. Just wondering what you guys think itís worth? I love that itís a 4 speed car, Iím sure you can tel by now from my GTO post. Iím between the El Camino and GTO. I already sold my 68 El Camino, hence why Iím on the hunt again. This one Iím not sitting around on, Iím seeing it first thing in the morning. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations.

Are you sure itís a Corvette engine? I thought all 1965 Corvette engine codes started with an H.

Not positive, I need to do some more digging on it. It appears to be a 65 327?

Google is a great place to find information on engine codes. You can search by year and usually by specific model if you incorporate that into the search. Often Iíll search Camaro engine code 19xx, Corvette engine code 19xx. It work well for 60ís Mopar and Fords as well as 1972 and newer GM vehicles, which incorporated the original engine into the VIN.

Re: 1966 El Camino 327 4 Speed

I think the EB code is for a manual 1965 Chevelle 300-horse 327 with Carter AFB carb, & also the 1966 & 67 327 275-horse manual (3 & 4-spd) with a.i.r (smog) & Rochester 4MV carb. You may well have as close to a correct engine as you are going to find. Small journal, 10 or 10.5:1 compression, plus the old style PCV system with the breather-type oil filler cap on a tube. I guess congratulations are in order!

According to the "Lime Book", one of the EB codes is for,

EB 66 327 275 4B,AIR,MT CHevelle, ElCamino

May be a born with engine.

Thatís what Iím hoping for. Someone wanted to put some corvette valve covers on it. Honestly, Iíd rather have it be the original than a corvette motor.
