66 327

Hello everyone,
I have the opportunity to purchase a numbersmatching 66 327 matted to a 2 speed power glide. I had a trusted source look at the car as I am about 5 hours away from it. Has the original paint which is I believe is the sandalwood tan. Bucket seats floor shift power glide two speed. Original running 327 with factory smog pump still attached. Has the original jack still in the box. Does have surface rust in spots but nothing to major. Original black and gold California plates. We have a negotiated a price but I have to picked it up. Curious on everyone’s thoughts. Please chime in.

Thanks. Jared

Re: 66 327

Pics would be better to tell

If it is not full of Bondo in the Quarter Panels etc.

If the underside Floor is not Rusted thru in the usual places eg. Front Driverside / Trunk ...

First make it safe to drive
eg. Brakes / Steering / Suspension / Shocks / TuneUp / Replace old bad Wirering / Belts & Hoses / all Fluids changed

Sounds like it could be a great Cruzer as is
or
change some things like
- the PG to a TH2004R for better Gas Mileage very easy/little modes to do
or to a TH350/400 Trans for Go Faster times
- Rearend Gears for either better Gas Mileage or Go Faster times

Go for it

Looks like it might have factory ac and power steering. From what my friend has said is the rust is very minimal.

I'm sure your friend has your best interests at heart, but I wouldn't buy a car without inspecting it IN PERSON.

If you can't do this and/or you don't know these cars well, you should provide your location so a local member can possibly help you out.

Looks like a nice '66 with lots of potential.

I’m down in Huntington Beach ca. Car is located in Fresno. I trust him cause he does this for a profession. Works for Tom nelson of Nelson super cars doing body work and fab and his dad worked for chip foose for several years.

Re: 66 327

Rear quarters look pretty shabby. Right one looks like a ski jump and has bondo in all the right places to suspect cheesy rust repairs. Maybe got rear ended on that side too. Left one probably has a ton of bondo behind the rear wheel and a thick skim coat of bondo by the looks of it.

The only thing I trust is the hood.

I expect rust around the rear window channels or a poor repairs in that area just waiting to pop. Pictures can be very deceiving.

Pretty sure if you strip that car it would look like a cheese grater. Budget appropriately for your final goals.

Someone converted the single master brake cylinder to a newer dual circuit system - smart move there!

Doesn't look like factory air car, no vents in dash, no compressor.

Re: 66 327

Not a highly sought after 66 model so you will probably be under water like most people with Chevelle's are,so I hope it's going to be cheap enough not to hurt you financially. What is the asking price ?

Re: 66 327

Bought similar car a year ago for 8500. Original paint, 327, pg, buckets, ac. 327 was replaced with a 307 at some point. Only visible rust was dash between windshield and dash pad. After getting it home I found rust in the windshield channel, rear window channel and pass footwell cowl. Got that all fixed and ready to go back together with a 350 4l60 combo.

Re: 66 327

Surprised you haven't had more responses. When I bought mine, the guy posted on here asking what it was worth. It started at 3500 but quickly people were telling him it was worth 12,500. The guy that showed up before me offered 7000 for it. When I showed up they said based on what people on this site had told him they were firm at 10,000. After talking to them and explaining that those guys weren't here with cash to buy it and I was, I made the offer and it was excepted.

If your friend said it has factory AC, Iíd want to see the car in person. This car was not a factory AC car and doesnít have an aftermarket unit either. Just because he works at a place that builds cars doesnít mean he knows the ins and outs of a particular make or model.

Half the people that work at the local drag strip have never made a pass down the track. They are good at putting on an efficient race, better than any other track in the area, but I wouldnít go to them for advice on how to cut a light or dial a car.

Re: 66 327

Doesn't appear to me to be a factory air car either.

Looks like 7-9K to me.

These cars can be upgraded to Factory A/C bur it's a big job compared to 68-72 with the suitcase on the firewall. Essentially, the whole RF corner of the body tub has to be replaced. Not really like a weekend job for a home crafter guy,

Tom Terrific or Terrible Tom, depending on the phase of the moon, passing cosmic rays or other factors not fully understood except by my wife.

First, not sure if that is original paint... and it doesn't really matter because its been partially stripped...

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ct...939895659.html

This ad is from mid-July, and it says $14,500... The car has disc brakes, and reupholstered seats... Depending on the quality of the work and the body condition(rust? rot? and how extensive is the body damage)Ö I can't believe the passenger quarter; looks like fresh primer, and yet they didn't touch the rear body damage...

IMO, I am thinking $8000-$9000 would be a decent deal for you... That's assuming no major hidden surprises like rot...

Once you go RAT, you never go back...
