I owned a Can Am years ago and I'd say, from what I've seen good condition ones selling for lately, that $6400 is a good deal for whomever has that bid. Models with the Pontiac 400, like this one, are more desirable, but models with the Olds 403 are much more rare, but don't necessarily sell for more. This is a highly optioned model, which makes it even more desirable. Pontiac Historical Services documentation would be helpful to verify that it's a real Can Am and that all options are from the factory. Not many have been cloned, but it can be done. There are two total production #'s that have thrown around for years and I believe they are 1137 and 1377, but from my understanding, 1137 is correct. Initially, it was supposed to be 5000 produced, but the machine that made the spoiler broke and Pontiac tried to re-tool, but the production year was ending, so they halted production and the cars leftover were sold as LeMans Sport Coupes with a standard flat hood and obviously, no spoiler or stripe kit.
The Rally Gauge cluster & clock is a nice option, but the clock is missing, should be inset mounted below the radio, looks like the little storage/cubby hole has been replaced with one from a model that didn't have the factory clock. That whole dash is a Grand Prix dash that Pontiac borrowed to dress up the interior and was also available in the LeMans Sport Coupe and Luxury LeMans. Those clocks come up for sale on eBay every so often, but make sure you get the wiring with it in the auction, in case that is gone from this car.
The steering wheel is not correct, but looks ok. They came with a standard red wheel or an optional black cushioned Sport Wheel. The sport wheels come up for sale on eBay every so often, but a nice one won't be cheap, $250, if you're lucky.
The black rubber bumper strips are split in the middle on the back and front bumpers, so that's not good. No one is repopping them and finding a nice original one is very difficult, an NOS one is close to the holy grail!
They are a blast to drive and very comfortable on a long drive. If I wasn't in the middle of house buying/selling, I'd probably buy this one myself.
