1968 El Camino estimate

Hey guys,

I have a el Camino Iím looking at purchasing. Itís a 68 with a straight six and three on the tree. It has the original paint. In fact, the car is pretty much all original. Super resigns body without any rust. It has the vinyl floor! I know itís a 6 cylinder car, but itís so clean and complete. Iím thinking it would be a fun project to convert to an 327 or 427 4 speed car. I donít want to over pay. Whatís it worth? Here are some pictures below:

Very nice. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You are not buying the 6 cylinder. you are buying the non rusted or chopped up original vehicle.

Re: 1968 El Camino estimate

She's super clean, rust free, unmolested, probably all OEM/original, Calfifornia Black Plate, etc.

Not sure how you can go wrong. These are the kinds of cars we dream about still finding.

To the extent that you sound like you plan on keeping it and not flipping it, the car's so nice I almost wouldn't worry about the cost....within reason.

Can't help with price, but the only thing I'd be changing on that car is the oil. Maybe the air cleaner too.

Re: 1968 El Camino estimate

original paint or original paint color? that paint looks pretty damn nice for being 51 years old...
What Slick87gn said is spot on... you can have a transplant motor/trans dropped in for next to nothing but fixing rust paint and body would cost you a fortune...

If its a rust free as it looks i would say 8-15k

Re: 1968 El Camino estimate

Hows the bed? Hard to repair. If bed is dent free - you could be knocking up to 20k, but 15 for sure. CAVEAT I am not an ELKY owner, just a wanna bee!

Being that I have a 427 spare in the garage and a Muncie..... I;d be all over this. I pay 15 ( if the metal is as good as it looks) w/o batting an eyelash. But, I;m a wannabee so..... and then i might be tempted to leave it all original.

Re: 1968 El Camino estimate

On one hand, 1968 is a "lesser" year for 1964-1972 Chevelle lovers.....for whatever that is worth.

On the other hand, this car is SO clean, original, and rust free that anything under 12K is a steal, 15K is totally reasonable and frankly, if you love 1968 El Caminos, I could justify paying 20K for this.....and I'm a cheap a*s who is cynical of almost everything. This car is that nice, IMHO.

There is likely nothing on this car from China, Auto Zone, or OPG. She's exceedingly original....with NO rust. I'd go "all in" if I were the OP.

As an El Camino owner, I disagree that 1968 is a "lesser" year for El Caminos. I am biased, so have to go with 1968, then 1970, then 1969. $15k would be top of the range in my opinion. Yes, nice car.

Right? For the record our bud Dave out of Sugar Grove PA, has a 6cyl 66 done up that sounds meaner than my 427.

Re: 1968 El Camino estimate

I think he got it wrong, 68 is the best year for Chevelles/Elcos

Man, that's just a clean original, Itd be hard for me to change a thing..
