Sorry for the delays and lack of information. I only had a little bit of information to go on and did not want to blow the deal before I had the car fully in my possession. I flew down to Arizona in the summer and looked the car over best I could considering the temperatures and how the car was parked. I was able to verify it was a matching numbers car. That was enough for me to leave a deposit. I recently flew back down and trailered the car to my brothers house in California. I’ll be going back down in the Summer to bring it back home to Washington. I’m not in a rush as I have another Chevelle that I already restored, a 72 Blazer and a 56 Wagon. So, I’m not in a rush to do the Chevelle. Will be a frame off labor of love over the next several years as I like restoring them more than the finished product. This car reminded me of my survivor 67 I sold 4 years ago. That car was emerald turquoise/turquoise with a black vinyl top and power glide. I always wished it was a 4 speed non vinyl top car so, I knew I had to have this one when it came for sale. This car is pretty bare bones. It does not have gauges, tach, disc brakes, buckets, console and it is the 325 horse version. I actually prefer a bench seat 4 speed car over a bucket seat car. I will be restoring the car to stock. I may add some factory options like gauges, tach, tilt, and disc brakes to make the car a bit more user friendly while not detracting from the stock appearance.
I’m the third owner. The 2nd owner first saw the car when picking up his girlfriend to go watch Top Gun. He looked across the street and saw the back end of the Chevelle with the SS emblem on the tail panel. Walked over to the original owners house and before he could get to the front door, the original owner yelled it was not for sale. Fast forward to 2008. 2nd owner is over at his now in laws house and the original owner is dying from cancer. He agrees to sell the Chevelle. 2nd owner brings it to his house and parks it in the backyard where I found it. It had never left the Phoenix/Mesa area since new. The car developed “engine trouble” in 1978 and has not been driven since. The front windshield had a rock thrown through it and the car suffered from years of sitting outside. Water leaked through the front windshield and rusted the dash top/lower windshield pinch weld area, rear window leaked and rusted the quarters and trunk pan. The doors, rockers, firewall, roof, and floors are Arizona solid with no rust. I spent 2 days cleaning junk and debris out of the car. Front seat was beyond saving. I had a good replacement front 67 bench so, I sat that in for the time being. I did not find a build sheet but, I do have the original vehicle inspection checklist and sales receipt.
