How does this happen? Meaning, how does a guy sit on this thing and then one day tosses up a very vague tease Craigslist ad up for $125k? Itís brilliant in its understatement

We've all heard the story before: A "collector" and his car. Thank heavens he didn't "store" the car in a field like many "collectors" seem to do. He's probably an older guy who's heard all about scammers and doesn't trust the interweb (I guess I don't blame him for that). So now he wants to cash out and maybe move to Phoenix (I'd take the car with me, but...).

You know all that from that ad or is there another somewhere?

Jeff comments on anything to do with a Z-16 (not a bad thing). I'm sure that he has seen this thread. If he has not, I'm sure that he will get wind of it and comment. Heck he might be checking this car out as we speak.

Jeff is a regular here and the authority like you say. I'm willing to bet he knew about this sale before it got posted on this site ;-)

If I was to guess, I'd say the car is well known by most in the know. Seller only has to mutter the word and the bees swarm. I'd certainly like to see more of it.

^^^^^^^^X2.

If the car is reasonably priced based on its condition it will sell itself. Iíd be surprised if every serious Z16 collector didnít know of the ad within a couple of hours of the ad being posted.

Re: Alleged 65 Z-16 on Craigslist

Posting a teaser pic of the unobtainable rear trim shows a degree of seriousness. Finding one in the rough is like finding a diamond in the rough. I've got to say that seeing that teaser picture in something like Marina Blue, even though it isn't correct it looks like it would be a nice color. My wife's uncle (and therefor my uncle by extension) lives pretty close by the Craigslist seller, on the mouth of the Magothy River. He's not a car guy, he's a 70+ year old surgeon. This has nothing to do with the car in question, but I do remember walking around near his nice place and seeing a '65 Malibu SS with a transplanted crate LS-6 and talking with the owner. I told him about this site but I don't know if he made it here or not.

Nope, no other ad, no other data, just sitting here speculating. The heavy dust on the car (not to mention all the carp under the car) indicates to me that something is amiss. Where's the car cover? Where's the climate controlled storage facility where a Z-16 truly belongs? Sadly, this Z-16 has become a Barn Find. Sometime in the past someone painted this Z-16 in an incorrect color, thereby (marginally) reducing its value from that of a museum piece. If I'd been entrusted with a historical collector car of this magnitude I'd know enough to treat it as it deserves to be treated or I'd have sold it long ago, because life gets in the way.

You're right: I'm speculating (I thought this was Bench Racing and not What's it Worth, my bad). But I see a valuable, irreplaceable piece of automotive history which is not receiving the level of care it is due -- very much like those collector cars that rot in fields because their owners are going to get around to restoring them someday. Well, someday seldom comes. Sell them and let someone else have their someday Ö like the seller is doing...

Obviously that's a hot button issue with me.

I wish the seller and the buyer well.
