New member from Alabama

New member from Alabama. Just acquired 2 64 Malibu's. One is in primer with new quarters and floorpans, 327 with powerglide trans, power brakes and power steering. The other is rusty that has the SS emblems. Not sure if its a true SS or not. I does have the disc brakes on front and also has manual brake and clutch pedals so I figure it was a 4 speed car. Also was a vinyl top car. I will be using this site while getting the primer one road ready. Again thanks for letting me join.

Re: New member from Alabama

Welcome aboard Greg.
You can tell by the VIN if the 64 is an SS or not.

SS VIN begins with 138. Welcome to the site, what part of Alabama?

Re: New member from Alabama

Well neither starts with 138. They start with 456. So I feel better swapping the disc brakes over on to my primer one. Thank you so much for the help Dean.

Re: New member from Alabama

Hey Greg, my bad you said they are 64's. 456 is a V8 Malibu. 457 is a 6cyl SS, 458 is a V8 SS. If you're new to Chevelles, check out chevellestuff.net. A world of good info there, and good folks here to answer your questions.

In 64, the SS VIN starts as 457 for six cylinder or 458 for a V8

{edit} Obviously, I didn't read the replies first to see that your question was already answered.
