‘72 restomod

Hey ya’ll. I’m picking up a ‘72 Chevelle with a 90-91 mark IV 454 swap this week that I’m doing a restomod on. I’m fairly new to refurbishing cars but have some background as a mechanic. I’m looking for some advice on who to buy parts through, any advice in general on my project, or advice on things to avoid as a beginner. I’m having all the exterior rust taken care of as well as having it shot with primer to start out. After that I’m going to focus on the interior, will later be getting the paint done, and lastly focusing on the engine build. I don’t plan on doing a factory restoration. The idea is to make it “nice” again, update a view things to make it more enjoyable to drive on a regular basis, and put a little pep in its step. I know these are pretty broad questions, and I’ll be more than happy to answer any in return. Thank you in advance

Re: ‘72 restomod

Hello,

And welcome aboard. I did a 70 El Camino resto mod into a much later LS-style engine / transmission from a 1999 GMC Sierra. I have been happy so far and the Holley people made this very easy. The following companies are my go to places for parts:

Original Parts Group
National Parts Group
Ecklers
Ground Up SS 396
Auto Metal Direct

There are a few others you will run across but I keep all catalogs of the first four above close at hand.

These are some of the pictures the seller initially posted and sent to me. I’ll get some after pictures of the body repair when I get it here, and some more as I go throughout the restoration

Welcome to Team Chevelle.....

When I works, I works hard.
When I sits, I sits loose.
When I thinks, I falls asleep.

Re: ‘72 restomod

Looks like at least partially new floor metal. This is a good sign.

Welcome to Team Chevelle, my go to places are NPD (National Parts Depot), (used to also go to) SS396 Ground Up & Ebay for sheet metal & interior parts, Summit & Jeggs for mechanical parts but there's also some great engine, trans, electronic guys that are members here that sell complete custom engines to distributors to like new seats, it's like having the old Sears & Roebuck cat. only for old chevys

Re: ‘72 restomod

Thanks guys, and I appreciate the websites. There were a few in there I hadn't heard of. I'm pretty stoked about the build and finally owning a classic in general. I definitely don't plan to keep it moth balled and trailer it around everywhere when I'm done

Had it almost a week now. I’m finding a lot of things that need to be fixed or replaced, but it wouldn’t be a project car if there wasn’t
