2020 Autocross pictures and video

I'll share a bunch of my pictures and videos here throughout the rest of the summer.

I finished 14th out of 32 cars in Street Machine class.

Re: 2020 Autocross pictures and video

Looks good. I can't wait to give my car a go at it with the recent updates, probably next year before it's ready.

Was it less crowded with covid? Out here it's usually so crowded I loose interest pretty quickly, I hate waiting.

Either way, you were hitting the throttle, hitting the brakes and turning, that's fun.

Man it looks like you have it pretty well set up, must have been some stiff competition out there. I'm rocking 500 treadwear trying to make something of myself.

It was a little less crowded, definitely less spectators. Weather was hot, so a lot of participants weren't out walking around.

The car works pretty well, I need to drive better and get some new rear tires, but with the weird season I'm reluctant to spend a lot on fresh tires not knowing if I'll get enough events in to use them up.

Top 3 in class were Corvettes, 4th was a '66 Chevelle. That Chevelle ran a 36.3XX to my 37.7XX. I'm happy with being mid-pack, I'm not really willing to put in the effort and expense to be at the top.

Unless your last name is Unser and you're sponsored by Speedway,

the middle of the pack is commendable.

You didn't see any nooses hanging, did you?

The sponsor cars with professional drivers are in a different class, but still it is pretty much all lighter weight and shorter wheelbase cars at the top of the class for us little people.

Not yet, but those 15" Cragar guys are starting to get a little aggressive toward us car-ruiners.

All Goodguys classes are 1987 and older, and require 200 treadwear minimum for tires.

PRO-X is the top class, lightweight cars with huge tires.
PRO is limited to 3000lb minimum weight and 315mm max front tire
Street Machine is 3200lb minimum weight and 285mm max front tire cars 1950-1980
Hot Rod is 1949 and older, 275mm max front tire... doesn't look like there's much else for rules, but I've never seen anyone fast in this class yet.
Truck is 3500lb minimum weight, 305mm max front tire

Hot Rod and Truck classes are not very competitive, but the rest have very tough competition.

Just wondering, say Street Machine Class runs 35-40 seconds, how much faster times do the Pro Classes run on the same track?

About a second difference from the fastest PRO-X to the fastest Street Machine.

Fastest PRO-X was a 34.8
Fastest SM was 35.8 I think

I ran 37.7

To be that close to the fastest Pro is very commendable.

Well done

Re: 2020 Autocross pictures and video

I went to another autocross yesterday, organized by the local Corvette club.

Fastest run video:
https://www.facebook.com/10000774166...048288625/?t=1

4 wheels off:
https://www.facebook.com/10000774166...224955274/?t=8

...and a spin:
https://www.facebook.com/10000774166...278288602/?t=2

Raw time I was 26th out of 62, PAX'd 24th of 48 (Novice and Vintage classes not PAX'd) and got the CAMT win out of 4 cars in class. Comfortably mediocre so-far, but the video has been helpful in showing me what I'm really doing rather than what I think I'm doing. I need to play with camera locations now to see how I'm doing on car-placement and knowing how close I'm getting to the cones on the slaloms.
