Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Well, after a five month wait, the front coil overs finally arrived.

Initial mockup looks good, some small cleanup and then get those upper brackets welded in.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Those look very similar to the Global West extended travel upper coil-over weld-in brackets I installed. There were very few options then and I opted for these as they were the most robust at the time. Keep the updates coming!

Loving this build, nice fab work! I had the same issue with fitment for the Helwig boxing kit for my 67, but they were quick to respond and get the right parts out. That kit is very well thought out and made a huge difference. Went with the Speedtech coilover mounts as well. You are way ahead of me on the build, seeing your work is great motivation for me!

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

The long wait is over, finally received the front coil overs and got the upper brackets welded in.

Hoping to get a test fit with the body at the body shop this weekend. Then disassemble powder coat the frame and reassemble.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Took the frame down to the body shop this morning for a test fit. I wanted to make sure the transmission crossmember and the rear coil over mount cleared the body. Everything cleared perfect. The old adage of measure twice and weld once worked out good.

With any luck I'll have the frame ready to drop off at the powder coat shop Monday morning.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Thank's for the comments guys.

It's very gratifying to get the frame done, literally the end of the list on fabrication and a 180 degree turn in the process. It's all reassembly from here on out.

Troy, what did you do for coating of the inner boxed areas of the frame? Did your powder coater have a way to coat the inside? Iíve always wondered what folks do..

To be honest, I didn't worry about it. I figured if the frame lasted as long as it has without rust issues it would be fine going forward.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

I taped the welding edges and then POR-15 the rest of it, still open metal, but not quite as much.
