Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

I also repaired the broken studs on the tail light extensions. there was two broken on the left side and three broken on the right. drilled them out and tapped them for 1/4-20 and installed some stainless all thread studs.

Great updates. I know what you mean about it bothering you for ever if you didn't fix it. Once you know about it, it will eat at you always. So good plan getting it all taken care of. Easiest time to do it is now, and nice job with the repairs!

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Got the right side done today.

Know I'm going the have to moch up the windshield channel, outer a pillar covers, windshield wiper transmission and cowl cover and glass to make sure all of those things line up.

I also ordered this welding tip for installing the pins to the front and rear window openings. It goes in one of the spot welders used for welding pins and pulling dents. I got pins and the rear window side pieces from Belden Speed.

You could go for the flush mount and not put those studs in there

Wouldn't they still need to be attached to the car? You're talking about the style using filler to eliminate the parting line?

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

The pins hold the molding clips, so if you are going with the original moldings you would need them. I am going flush mount with a gasket around the edge.

My mistake, when you said studs in the above statement I thought you were talking about the studs for the tail light extensions.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Well, I finally finished all of the sheet metal rust repair and dropped the body off at the body shop.

Some of the final rust repair was the rear window area, including a new filler panel and both lower corner of the window opening.

I also had to redo a horrible previous repair on the drivers door. Whoever did this tried doing so without getting onto the bent over edge of the door panel.

On the panel I made I bent the edges on a brake at about 120 deg so the edge was formed finished fitting to the cut area the tacked it in place and completed bending over the edge.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Now that the body is at the body shop, I'm back on the frame.

This is the crappy repair someone did on the frame. Probably the same person that did all the other crappy repairs.

I had a local guy cut me some inserts and I welded them in both front corners of the frame.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Now I am completing the frame boxing. Using the Hellwig Frame FX kit

I just have the last two upper front pieces to fit and tack in place, then a lot of welding.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Did you have any idea the car had that much rust?

I imagine you are saving upwards of $20k by doing all this work yourself. Keep up the good work.

Had no idea. There was a very small bubble associated with that horrible repair on the driver door, other than that and the poor patch on the passenger floor that started the rust chasing fiasco I thought I was in good shape.
