Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

I got the rear half completed.

I had to turn a couple spacers for the upper coil over mounts. Switching to the ABC Performance cross bar was a little larger than the Vera Sock coil over.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Just thought I'd share these. I made these Jack stands in high school metal shop class in around 1978. My son recently took them am and cleaned them up and powder coated them. I've used them a lot on this project.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Finally, starting to see some gratifying results for all this work. For the first time in over 3 years I feel like the end is in reach.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Been a little slow on progress lately. I shortened the dip stick tube by three inches, just couldn't tolerate how high it rose above the engine. If you look at the above photos you can see how obvious it was and from the side view it lined up perfectly with the front coil. Now it's much lower and is centered between the two coils. LOKAR makes a LS specific dip stick with the same loop style hande except in black.

The body shop got the bottom undercoated with Raptor liner. Looks great.

I also got Morris shoulder belts for xmas along with a set of focal speakers for the front doors. I'm finding my gift list is getting short.

I've been thinking about shortening my dipstick also, can you post details of how you did yours?

Thanks

Thanks
I drilled out the three spot welds on the bracket then in that same strait section the bracket was attached to I used a pipe cutter to remove 2.6 Inches of tube. I then mocked it up and scribed a line where I wanted it clocked and had a friend tig weld it.

Once welded I installed the tube and modified the bracket. You can see in the photos that I moved back one hole on the cylinder head. Had to shorten and reshape the bracket, clamped it in place, removed the whole assembly and brazed the bracket on.

I painted it but might have it powder coated.

Re: Troy Built 66 Chevelle LS3/T56

Not much new lately. I did complete the dip stick by using the handle from Lokar, I think it looks way better.

I also came across the old body bushings, stark contrast compared to the new ones.

They are fine, can't even believe you wasted your money on new ones

With all this down time I decided to get the chassis completed radiator to tail pipes and fire up the LS3 for the first time.https://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5e7ffdbf...232959_231.mp4
