Avatars Not Allowed

Claude, You deleted your thread before I had a chance to finish when my son came in and interrupted me.

Anyway, if avatars were allowed we would have ALL kinds of pictures... You name it.

Look at some of the ones on forums where they are allowed and you'll see why not.

Dean, sorry if I deleted my thread too soon… I wasn't being unrespectful in any way... it's just that I thought you were done!..My bad!… Sorry for interrupting you inadvertently.

Claude.

P.S: About the avatars, that's ok, I guess it's the site's owners's decision, but I find it a little "strange" how things are run here…First no attachments managing allowed and now this, no avatars…
I'm not arguing on the owners way to run this site which is their full right but when I compare with other sites on which I'm a member this one doesn't seem as "user friendly" (to use a popular expression).

As usual, Andy is right
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

I have to keep reminding myself this isn't a Z16 convertible, Evening Orchid Camaro, or factory 1966 SS427 and get on with it.

The problem with that is who is going to police it and decide what's okay and what's not okay and then have to argue about the decision.

None allowed solves all that.

Ok thanks for your reply…but what is it that this makes this site different than most other sites who do allow avatars, etc...? (Rest assured that I'm asking so I can understand better, not to criticize.)

Too bad though…It's some kind of radical measure as everyone kinda gets "penalized" because no one wants to "police" the avatars...…but what is there exactly in an avatar that would need some "policing" ??
The same could be said about not being able to manage our attachments...

Thanks,

Claude.

Re: Avatars Not Allowed

I'm on some other sites. Avatars can get pretty racy with thinly clad girls, suggestive pics, political avatars (some I find funny). I don't know why the decision here for no avatars, but I feel it's in keeping with our concepts of no vendor bashing, no politics (except the current events forum), keep the language clean. I'm not so naive to suggest that all these things are automatically related, but they seem to run on the same herd in some other sites. And then, the posts get very long, chatty and off topic (and maybe a little mean too at times).

Re: Avatars Not Allowed

I'm glad there are no avatars here. Keeps things clean and uncluttered. Then there's the HAMB where almost everyone has the default B&W avatar and I struggle to tell who is saying what. Then there's the embarrassing story when i hit on a forum member who had a hot chick as their avatar. turns out he was in his 50s, bald, and overweight.

Re: Avatars Not Allowed

I set up my preferences on the sites I frequent so avatars are not displayed. I go here for information, not bling. Avatars serve no purpose except to slow down loading of pages.
So, I never noticed that avatars aren't on this site.
