67 Wiper Motor

I'm doing a complete restro on 67 and I need a wiper motor. I have an American auto wire kit and on the diagram it shows 5 total wire leads on the wiper motor. In all the catalogs for the motors all they offer are 2 and 3 wire motors. Can someone help explain this? if the AAW shows 5 leads with 3 plugs does that mean I need the 3 wire? Thanks in advance.

I think the extra wires are for the washer pump

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

So if I want the washer pump wire I would want the 3 wire motor?

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

so wait, does the washer motor mount right against the wiper motor? maybe that's what I'm missing. So the wiper motor should have 3 wires and the washer motor has 2 wires? is this correct?

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

Yes, from what I read in the AAW wiring kit, there are two different wiper motors..........a two wire is single speed, and a 3 wire is a two-speed. The wagon we are doing has the three (as does the switch in the dash) and the other side has two contacts for the washer.

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

The instructions for the AAW kit I had for my 64 showed 3 different configurations of wiper motor/washer wiring.
You have to figure out which leads you need based on the descriptions.
One wire is the hot feed, then there were 3 wires which were for single or two speed wiper motor and another lead for the washer.
The tech guys at AAW are very helpful with this sort of issue, if you need it.

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

The 2 extra wires are for the washer, which isn't a motor, it's a solenoid that engages the pump drive mechanism to the wiper motor.

Re: 67 Wiper Motor

Above is correct, 3 wire motor is what you want.

True on 64-66, but not on 67. In 64-65 you could get a single speed without washer (std on 300's and 300 deluxes), so the standard firewall harness only had wires for that. If a washer or 2-spd with washer was ordered, then the wiring for that was a separate jumper harness that passed through a hole in the firewall.

In 66 2-speed with washers became standard, but it was RIGHT at the beginning of the production year when that happened, so 66 continued to use the 64-65 wiring arrangement.

But in 67 they integrated the 2-speed wiring and washer wiring into the standard firewall harness, so no separate jumper harness in 67.
