Question Air Cleaner Lower Housing

so i have the Air Cleaner Housing that was from a Corvette that I was told would fit a Quadrajet carb... I got it so long ago that I remember it costing me a whole $100.00 for the lower and the chrome top and stock GM element. It is NOS so 30 years later never would have thought it will not fit.
sadly now the engine is complete I wanted to plop it on top of the Stock Quadrajet carb... and Wa wa waaaaa... It fit s a Holly. due to the two long humps it has. Is there a stock base for a Quadrajet carb that I should be looking for? It is for a 1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 350 hp A part no or pic would be great.
Mine is 14 inches and does have the stainless flame arrestor and the large vent tube coming from the underside.

i saw a ring that you can get that has a breather tube on the side will this fix my issue...? and if so what is that ring actually called?

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

All I know is that the repo dropbase air cleaner base from OER works with a Qjet as long as there is no choke. We did have to modify the vent tube for clearance is all. Its for a BBC or 302 car fom what their listing says, I needed a drop base is all.

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

Find a friend with a parts book and look up the bases. IIRC the differences are in the years and the way the PCV fresh air tube exits the air cleaner base and then connects to the rubber hose to the valve cover. Where is your base interfering with the carb.? These bases were used on mech choke carb's and some later ones may be an issue?

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

Yes I am using the Mech choke and it is just the one side... I may look at a slight modification to the base to make it work... A shame to cut and distort an NOS piece that may work for someone else if not for me.
I'll look maybe just a little peening and a touch up will do it. I know it will fit a Holly carb no problem with the dual bumps the Quad having the wider ends... It is only on the one side.
Must be a proper Quadrajet base though...
Thanks so far with the advice... I'll check it out.

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

I wouldn't cut it up or reshape. Ca you post a pic of the bottom so that we can see the angle of the PCV tube There are 2 versions of this for a Holley. One exits and points to near the rear and one exits and points to the fender. It may help as there are many QJet bases around and someone may need a Holley base and be willing to trade. Certain Holley ones (70 L78/LS6 can be very hard to find.

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

Okay guys here is a few more pics of the lower air cleaner housing.
The first is on the engine probably the wrong way around as it didn't fit as well and the recess didn't fit the right way on the carb mouth.
The second is the proper way round...? As it fit better and the large portion of the carb was in the right place for the lower body.

The one piece on the carb giving me the issue is a tab that sticks up for no reason in this case other than to annoy me. I am thinking it is a locator tab for the proper cleaner housing so it cannot rotate or so it does not go on back to front?
In either case the vent tube from below would point to the side and not the rear.

Not sure if I was to grind down that tab about 1/8" - 3/16" if it would cause any issues...? making sure the bottom of the cleaner housing does not interfere with the linkage for the choke that is near that tab.

Thoughts?

Re: Air Cleaner Lower Housing

You could but one of these or go to an auto salvage yard and get one from a chev/gmc pick up. Spaces the air cleaner up.
