I can not get the headlamps to center in the bezels. Is there a way to adjust? Please help?

Common problem. Aim them and don't look at them again.

Re: 70 Chevelle headlamps will not center in bezel

Your adjustment screws are probably either in too far or not far enough and its offsetting the headlight bucket. It was for my 68. Either that it's been hit or you may have repro parts such as the radiator support or bezel that are not correct. However keep in mind these cars are not BMW's and lines were not always the best. The show cars you see today are better then they ever were from the factory.

If a repro rad support that's probably it. I had a repro '69 support with that problem. Had to do some grinding and adding epoxy resin to move the "bumps" that locate the headlight housings.

Re: 70 Chevelle headlamps will not center in bezel

I refer to the " Cross-eyed " 70s as a Core support that was NOT stamped correctly. Nothing more and Nothing less. Both of my 70s have the cross-eyed look,,, And the both have O.E.M.-VO-1 Core supports.
And YES,,,,,,,,,,, I thought about making them correct. Do you know what is involved in moving the four headlight buckets about 3/16' to a 1/4" in the core support. My one owner has been cross-eyed since I bought it and it will be crossed eyed when I am dead.
I look at it this way..... When you see a cross-eyed 70, I think, GEE, It must have the original O.E.M. core support.....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is not uncommon. Sorry!
I've learned to live with it on our 70 conv.

Exactly the same issue in my 70. It bothered me a little 10 years ago, but I've accepted it and all is well. You'll get there.😉

Re: 70 Chevelle headlamps will not center in bezel

I'm really glad to see this thread and to know that it's a common problem. I messed with mine for a couple of hours trying to get them centered and finally gave up on it. My car is a really nice car, but it's a good thing that I'm not a perfectionist. I have a fairly long list of things that aren't perfect. They are all close but not perfect. The gap on my passenger door at the fender is the worst. I consider my car a #2. And I can live with that.

Gap at right door and fender not good is often the case. Especially bad on gen 2 parts fenders. Fit as good as possible and move on.

I don't know why but that problem appears to be on '70's only... I never saw a '71 or '72 with that problem even with a repro rad support...

Re: 70 Chevelle headlamps will not center in bezel

My 70 Buick GS 455 headlight bezels were horrible. Not so much centering of the headlights but how they fit against other panels. I don't think it was a 70 only thing though. It is not unusual to use a welding rod on door and fenders to close gaps, some even use plastic but that is not a great way to correct. I think many (I didn't) send there frames out to correct for sag which happens over time, weakness in metal due to rust and flexing all contributes to the problems with 50 year old cars.
