Special Paint Codes

Hi all,

My 69 convertible’s trim tag reads white top, parchment interior and has the two dashes for special paint code. My question is would Carolina Blue considered a special paint code? I found light blue overspray on the trunk torsion rods under the plastic cover. When I searched for 69 colors, Carolina Blue is listed but it doesn’t have a two-digit code associated with it, at least on the chart I saw. I must say, it’s not a color choice I would prefer. But, I would like to get it back to as close to original as I can.

Thanks

I did, yes. It was sold by Trader’s Chevrolet in Greensboro, NC, which is now Terry Labonte Chevrolet. Greensboro would probably explain the Carolina Blue.

Re: Special Paint Codes

Being sold in NC I would say its a very good chance it was Carolina blue. But shy of finding the build sheet or other GM docs its just a very good guess.

Re: Special Paint Codes

Usually im one to say go to the original color especially if a car leans towards original but I would make an exception for Carolina Blue.

Re: Special Paint Codes

Yes, the special order Carolina Blue cars had special paint code designations (- - some years some plants, or O-O some years some plants). I believe the actual color mix is an earlier 60's Buick color.

The vast majority of the Carolina Blue cars were sold at Alamance Motors in Burlington NC, but Traders sold a good number of them too.

I think it looks good on a 69 vert with a dark blue interior and dark blue top. White interior and white top will be a lot of light colors going on everywhere, but still will generate more conversation and attention than "just another red, black or metallic blue" one will!

Good luck with your resto!

Thanks for all of the info guys! Carolina Blue is definitely not a color I am thrilled about. The car is currently Olympic Gold and looks amazing in that color. I’m probably going to keep it that color and go with the correct top and interior.

Re: Special Paint Codes

if you havent done it yet request title history from the NC dmv. they have a form, MVR-605A, and it costs $13 for the certified info. if the chevelle was sold and registered in nc you will likely get the certificate of origin with the transfer date that should match your NCRS report. I use exception number 5 for mine and tell them i am restoring the car and need the history for it. good luck

Re: Special Paint Codes

I don't agree. I think it would be a great color combo. and would stand out in the see of medium blue's, red's and black Chevelles

Re: Special Paint Codes

That's not the color though. This is: Buy used 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Survivor - Carolina Blue in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States, for US $19,900.00

And here is one with the dark blue top and interior. Nice! https://www.chevelles.com/forums/60-...assifieds.html

Re: Special Paint Codes

Whereas I'm all for originality, Carolina Blue is far from my favorite color. How about Glacier Blue (which is the color Keith posted a photo of)?
