68-72 Convertible power top cylinder and hose routing

Hi does anyone know or have a picture showing the correct routing of the hoses from the pump and the direction that the hydraulic cylinders face? The cylinder hose connections can face towards the front or rear. Thanks

During a search on converting to power top this picture came up in a converting to power windows. This answers the position of the cylinders with the hose connection facing the rear. Now for correct routing of the lines

Re: 68-72 Convertible power top cylinder and hose routing

Hi Bill -

I don't have a picture handy (at work), but my hoses routed through a hole (gap) on the bottom corners of the trunk divider. To play it safe, I covered that section of the hose with plastic wire loom tubing. Since the cylinders will move back and forth when raising/lowering the top, there needs to be some slack for the movement of the hoses. The wire loom tubing is to avoid any rubbing of the hoses against any metal edges. There are also some spring clips that hold the tubing against the trunk divider as well.

Thanks Jim but if you look at that picture it shows the lines running over the inner fender much higher then the two access holes on each side of the divider. Right now I have one line running inside between the dividers and one outside going through the access holes you mentioned. Man a picture would be worth 1000 words. Can't believe I can't find a picture. In case you are wondering why I don't know I am upgrading to a power top

It does some. These pics show it going over the inner wheelhouse that agrees with the picture that I posted showing the cylinders. Seems sloppy unlike where it runs through the two lower channels which is how I assumed it would be run. Thanks

Re: 68-72 Convertible power top cylinder and hose routing

I replaced both cylinders on the 70 a few years ago and made this short video.

Maybe it will provide some help.

Re: 68-72 Convertible power top cylinder and hose routing

Jim, Brian and Tom all of your information helped a lot. Much appreciated. Here is a few pictures I took a bit ago. Long lines go to the front of the pump and to the bottom of the cylinder. Shorter lines rear of pump and top of the cylinder. The trunk lines will look better after I get the two line retainers.

Tom's car is very nice and correct on this kind of stuff. I'd go with his stuff if possible.
