Heater control assembly

Hi everyone, I have a question about the heater control in my 1972 chevelle. I had it out the other night tearing up the streets and I noticed that the illumination is only on the right side of the heater control, the left side fan speed was dark everything else works for illumination.
So I checked it out and I can only find 1 bulb socket that is only for the right side, nothing on left side. I checked the assembly manual, page 1A2J sheet 1 and it only shows 1 socket on the right side. If that is the case how does the left side illuminate so you can see the fan speed, the only thing that I can think of is that the right side may shoot across to the left side, but that isn't happening. I'm confused on this one.
My dimmer switch seems alittle funky when I turn the lightning knob back and forth its sporadic like doesn't seem to work smoothly. Maybe dimmer worn.
Thanks for reading helping.

Re: Heater control assembly

It only has the light socket on the right side of the controller. I replaced both my lense and the black insert that goes behind it. When I reassembled it the lighting was really poor. What I found on the end of the lense where the bulb is the lense is cut on an angle to get the light to travel down the lense. The problem was the black insert was too long and covered that angle not letting the light thru. I had to trim about a 1/8" off the black insert on that end so the light could get to the angle on the lense.

I had no lighting after I replaced the black sheet behind the lense. As mentioned above, trimmed off about 1/8” so the bulb light could reflect on the 45 degree bevel on the right side of the lense.

Re: Heater control assembly

Sounds good, thanks. What does the bulb socket look like? According to manual it is the snap in type. I can't find it under my dash, just the twist in type is all I can find, it doesn't fit right

If I recall, The bulb socket just pushes straight in on the right side of the heater control box.

Re: Heater control assembly

I'm not sure but I think it might have has a metal silver case that just pushed into the hole on the controller. It could be just hanging down low in the back of the dash.

I found the push in socket, I don't know why they were using the wrong one, I ordered a lense.
