Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

Hi all

So, my 69 Chevelle had silver stripes applied to the hood and trunk before I bought it.

The car itself was respayed in Corvette Cyber gray two years ago.

It’s a hot rod, so I’m not concerned about originality...

Question -
Keep the stripes or go naked?
(Photos w and w/out below)

Keen to get some votes 👍🏻

Personally, I think stripes on 68-69’s look awkward. I’ve always liked the optional graphics that run down the side of the 69’s better.

Re: Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

Seems like quite a few people like 70 -72 stripes on a 68 or 69 but not me, I like the original look myself.

It's your car so do what ever YOU like.

you should have made this a poll

If I knew how - I can count though 😉

I’m undecided, hence asking 👍🏻

Re: Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

I just noticed you have a 300 Deluxe 2-door "post" with a cowl hood. Nice!

I like the stock look, but if you are going for a ride with a completely updated chassis & drivetrain with modern rubber, I could see a dark gray '69 Chevelle with ghost-like ˝ shade lighter (or darker!) on the stripes, which you should experiment with the proportions & layout. Use Paul Herd's restoration book for ideas

Back in high school around 78-79 a classmate owned a '74 Camaro L48 M20 that was repainted a stormy silver-gray with slightly darker stripes. It rolled on Western Cyclone turbine wheels and headers & a cam upgrade. Factory spoilers & red interior. It looked tough, sounded potent & ran very well.

In your case I would consider the stripes but keep the tones more subtle & ghost-like. Sure naked is nice but sometimes a little mind-play is more seductive. I'm talking about stripes...

86 the stripes, adjust/align the hood a little better.

Naked. And not just because it's fun to say naked. The naked picture (IMHO) looks better to me.

I hear you Cam

If I stick with them I was thinking about matte black to match the bumpers etc.

I also putting bigger rubber on the rear and gonna drop the front an inch.

Do what your gut tells you, I seen a 67 at the car show this weekend with strips. I have to say it looked very sharp, I am thinking about doing this for my 66. It’s different from the same old stock car after car you see at the shows. There are some very good photoshop businesses out there for a couple of bucks can add strips to you lr pictures, to help you decide. Some can even stitch the pictures together for a 3-D version. They can give you various colours to help with the choice, the internet should help you track someone down who can do this.

There was a restoration book from the late 80's I believe that was rife full of errors as far as correctness was concerned. On the cover of the book by Paul Herd was a '69 Chevelle SS396 with incorrect hood stripes and the suggestion that they were factory. We used to rip on that book in the restoration section a bunch of years back.
