Flat or satin black strips if you have to have them.
I would not do white with all that black!
I think White looks completely out of place on that car.

I vote Nekked. Just doesn't look right with stripes on a 68/69. It just looks goofy to me.

Plus that color with the blackout front and rear looks great.

Vinyl satin black, you might love them, and leave them. Worst case, it will help you decide what you really like, then either peel them off, or paint what you decide on.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply!

Decision made - silver stripes will go -
‘Naked’ wins

I’ll peel them off shortly and post some photos of her new clean look

As some have said, if I do re-stripe, then a satin black would be the my choice

Greatly appreciate all your thoughts!

I personally don't like a cowl hood on a 68/69. I think the original SS hood looks much better. I vote factory hood and factory style SS stripe down the side. I'm like many of the others, I don't think the 70-72 hood stripes look right on older models.

Re: Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

-No stripes..

-Chrome bumpers and headlight rings.

-15x7 Rally wheels painted Argent silver with no rings or center caps...

-The factory nailed it with these cars as far as styling, too bad they wouldn't let the engineers use the suspensions they had designed for them.. I was in awe when I saw the suspension John DeLorean wanted to put under the 69-72 Grand Prix, they let him use the massive el Camino frame but that was it..

I agree, not a big fan of the cowl hood. I also think factory stripes should be reserved for the corresponding year the car is from. With that being said, 69 is the only year I don't like the factory stripes. So, I took mine off and went naked.

The strips look better, naked looks plain, my 69 has a cowl hood and silver ghost flames under candy Brandywine hok paint I have had strips for about 40 years now.
Your not building a factory restoration so do it the way you want.

Re: Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

Had a discussion with a new guy that joined our Chevelle club that had 70 -72 stripes on his 69.
He said that some 69's came from the factory that way, he read it in Paul Herd's restoration book.
I told him that book was full of errors.

He dropped out of the club and I always wondered if I made him mad or if he just joined to get some free Chevelle parts, (which I had given him.)

Re: Keep stripes or go naked?.. votes please

I'm not a stripe guy but you need to go with what blows your skirt up. Personally, I like the subdued look....maybe even a little sinister with dark wheels and not a lot of bright trim work. My '71 is Antique Green and I'm going to paint the Ralleys the same.. Some tint to the windows will help me get the look I'm after.

Thanks to all for your thoughts & votes - all opinions valued and welcomed!

A bit of wrestling with the stripes, aided by a hairdryer and they’re gone - naked 69

So, my 69 post hot rod is now more stealth and resembles a 300 deluxe rod, my rod 🙂

Here are pics taken just now in the evening light in Hampshire UK...

Now I’m off for a drive!

Thanks!!!

I heard that the 70-72 style stripes could have been installed on a 69
by the dealer not the factory.
