Wipers twitching

Ok so dropped the car off for
Some stuff.
Got the car back
Long story short...
My wipers move like an inch on their own
If I hit a bump. And today I popped the hood
And the wipers began moving back n fourth a few inches non stop.

I have no idea how this is happening
And what the guy did was boost gauge
And some non mechanical stuff.

So right now it’s unplugged at the firewall

Any ideas? The guy who did the work
Is useless. We got into it and I won’t be seeing him again.

Thx.

Re: Wipers twitching

What year, make, and model car are you dealing with ?.

Is it a factory system or an aftermarket system ?

There may be an issue with the wiper motor ground and/or the parking switch internally in the wiper motor assembly.

You might be able to hook things back up, turn the ignition on and try wiggling wires and connections, tapping on the motor assembly or even manually moving the wiper arms slightly and easily to see if it's maybe the parking portion.

Re: Wipers twitching

Sounds like the park switch in the wiper motor. Just had to replace the one in my Wife's Riviera for almost the same problem.

Ok so what I’m reading is I need a whole new unit...

Or to check the ground at the firewall.
My firewall was recently painted and smoothed. Maybe that’s it

Re: Wipers twitching

If you're considering the ACDelco listed replacement IT IS DIFFERENT so don't go that route.

Trade in your unit at an AutoZone or Pep Boys and put them side by side to make sure the terminals are in the same location and there's no extra wires.

Remove from your unit the washer pump section, the rubber grommets and arm, rebuilds don't come with these. Before leaving the store, put the arm on the new unit clocked the same as it came off your unit.

Make sure the new unit comes with the nut that holds the arm in place, these rebuilt units often have a metric thread and should come with the matching nut, your original nut won't work.

When re-installing, make sure the ground strap on one mounting bolt is properly under the bolt. Screw up this ground and the low speed resistor will burn out in seconds-sending you back to the store for another one.

(I learned all the above the hard way )

Re: Wipers twitching

If it's a stock 71 see if one of the 3 bolts that hold the wiper motor down are loose. One of them has a brass grounding strap that may not be making a connection or is loose.
