Measurement needed - 1965 El Camino/Chevelle

1965 El Camino/Chevelle: Need some help with a measurement from the front "china wall" of a BBC to the under side of the standard hood. My El Camino has no front clip on it and I can't get at it right now. Any help will be appreciated!

Re: Measurement needed - 1965 El Camino/Chevelle

FWIW, In my 65 Elky,I have a BBC on Energy Suspension "low and wide" mounts, stock frame mounts, with a sq. port Airgap and holley carb. With a 3" by 14" drop base air cleaner there is about 1/2" of clearance between the hood and the air cleaner bolt and wing nut. This is the second BBC in the car and both had the same clearance with either a GM "163" intake or the Airgap.

OLDED - It's STOCK if it's made by GM and it fits!

Re: Measurement needed - 1965 El Camino/Chevelle

Thanks for the reply. I had similar clearance between the top of the OEM GM open element (14x3) drop base air cleaner and the hood with a similar set up. I have the measurement I'm looking for somewhere safe. Eight to ten years back I was contemplating installing an Arizona Speed & Marine EFI intake on my 461 and took a bunch of measurements to be sure the intake would fit without contacting the stock 1965 hood. Everything was good but then my plans changed and all that research got filed away somewhere. I guess I'll have to keep looking and hope I didn't toss it in the circular file!

Pulled the core (radiator) support and hood out of the storage locker at the body shop today and the measurement is 9-1/4" fwiw.
