Many years ago I looked to buy a 1970 El Camino SS that was advertised as an LS6. It had AC, which I knew was a contra-indication. In fact it was an SS El Camino that someone had put a crate LS6 in.

Re: 1970 ss?

GM edict was no a/c on solid lifter engines.

Re: 1970 ss?

I think I saw that there was actually 1 LS6 made with factory AC. It was built for a Big Wig for GM back in the day. It was on one of the Hot Rod programs on tv a few years back.

Re: 1970 ss?

That may be, but the OP probably hasn't found it. Interesting tidbit though, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. Mopar built a single 440 6 pack car for an executive with a/c. Same story, it wasn't supposed to be done.

'71 chevelle, 468, TH400, 12 bolt posi w/3.08's, drinks a lot of 87 octane.

Re: 1970 ss?

When I ordered my LS-6 in Feb. of 1970, I got a call ( one or two days later) from my salesman Bill Riddle. He said: Bob we have to re/do your order, Ya cant get an LS-6 with factory A/C.
With that " FACT " in place, I still have my one owner LS-5--M-22 with A/C. Also- 1970 SS 396/454 or 6 Cyl. El Caminos NEVER had F-41 suspension. I was NOT an option for El Caminos, This is also another FACT !
Myself,,,,,, I do not believe ANY of the Bull $h!t storys about LS-6 Cars with factory A/C or C-60.
Bob
