Ground Up

Has Ground Up gotten to the point where they are taking their customers for granted? The customer service reps are rude and make you feel like they're doing you a favor by selling you their stuff.... Then they make promises on their mistake and don't keep the promise... I wish I knew who the owner is....

Re: Ground Up

Most complaints seem to come from people that have to have parts shipped to them. I live close enough to be able to buy parts right at there location and have always been treated fairly and with respect.

I agree with Hank. I also live close enough to GU that I go there to get my parts, I have never had a problem with customer service or if I have to return any parts.

After having dealt with Ground Up briefly, NPD is the better company to go with for parts and customer service.

Re: Ground Up

I haven't had much luck with them either, wish I was within driving range, maybe my opinion would get better. They don't seem very eager to help over the phone or on line. I have to say I have had pretty good luck with OPGI, they seem to have pretty knowledgeable folks, and they have usually given free shipping with an order over a certain amount. I realize they are spendy, but at least the service is there.

Re: Ground Up

I always reckoned it was GU's " New Yawk" attitude, which is where they were before they moved up to the more "gentrified" Connecticut. I don't think anyone takes customers for granted though.

PS, years of NPD supporting the CanAm Show when GU wouldnt, well, I had to go to NPD for a few OER parts I need to revamp Old Red.

Re: Ground Up

I spoke to Theresa at Ground Up and she had promised me a "good deal" on my next order because they screwed up my last.... Well when I asked for the "good deal" she offered me a promotion that they're already pushing on their website, so in reality she didn't "give" me anything because if I order on my own I can take advantage of the same deal.... Long story short. She refused to honor her word and let me walk away from an order that would have been $1,060... I just wish I could let her boss know that they lost out on an order of over $1,000 all because of her ego.... Now I guess I'll go give my hard earned money to their competitor...

I won't order from them again...

Re: Ground Up

I have purchased many parts from Ground Up, but dumped them for poor service & outrageous shipping charges. Rude telephone service is just standard operating procedure for them.

NPD or OPGI for me. Both have good service. I choose to spend my money with people I like.

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Re: Ground Up

My experience was nothing I ordered qualified for the “free” shipping and all they could answer about the product is what was in the catalog.

Re: Ground Up

I've had the same experience with them as well as Theresa. Essentially had around $3000+ worth of stuff over a 5-6 month period of time that they lost out on due to attitude and mistakes.

Re: Ground Up

When I bought my 67 Chevelle in 2005 I ordered something from each of the following suppliers ;
Summit / NPD / OPGI / GrdUp / JEGs

I have had good experiences with GrdUp & JEGs and 99% of the time no Shipping Charges
since I get them to Deliver the Parts to a UPS Store Postal Box in OGDENSBURG, New York
and go for a 1.5 Hour Drive one way to pick it up .

Cannot say the same with NPD or OPGI

Re: Ground Up

The thing that kills me about them and a few others already mentioned is the ridiculous freight charges for small items. It's already one thing to be charged a premium for these parts, but damm they want to make even more profit on shipping as well.

I usually end up buying the part somewhere else unless I have a big order I can save some shipping or qualify for a discount. I like that Summitt is starting to carry more stuff for old cars. They are a lifesaver sometime.
