Throttle cable help

Hello,

I am looking to replace the throttle cable on my 71 454 SS Chevelle. The old one still works but needs to be replaced. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on the length before I have to pull it out. As I said, 71 Chevelle with a 454 big block and a Holley double pumper. I am looking to stay with a GM one but I see a couple of different sizes listed. Thanks in advance!

Re: Throttle cable help

I have one left in the garage. You can buy these at a Chevy Dlr. I bought mine at Kenny Ross Chevrolet in Irwin,Pa. I bought three of these cables 11-28-10. The G.M. part # on the pkg. is #3972679, The package says: For a 396 / 454 with a Quadra-Jet. Cost at Kenny Ross Chevrolet was $14.58 each.
I used one on my 70 454/4 speed and one my 71- 454-Auto. I am down to one spare. I hope the part number helps.
I did not measure them, They are for 396s & 454s.

Re: Throttle cable help

Bumping this old thread....

Did the '70 Holley-equipped L78/LS6 use the same cable as the L34/LS5? Are they the same length?

Re: Throttle cable help

I believe the Q-jet and Holley-equipped engines used different throttle cables, given the brackets that bolt to the carb base plate are different for Q-Jet and Holley. I bought an aftermarket (Holley) throttle cable from Ground Up, not thinking for a minute such cables might still be available from Chevrolet.

Re: Throttle cable help

So, the 3972679 cable is just Q-jet, not Holley?
