1972 Chevelle Concours wagon

Just scored a nice little driver that needs a little TLC and fine tuning before I start driving it. Factory AC, 350/350 combo and it's in very nice shape. I definitely got a smokin deal considering only 6500 of them were made. Needs a wheel and tire change, a 700r4 addition and few little tweaks to make it fit me...

Yeah, that thing looks so bitchin'. You'd really like a 700r4 also. I think that's one of the best upgrades to these old projects that a guy can do...

I did a wheel swap with some early Boyd's (17x8's and 17x7's) I had because the D spoke American's didn't really work for me. After getting them repolished, throwing on some 275 50 17 and 215 50 17 tires, I was heading in the right direction. It already had dropped spindles and lowered coils up front, but the back was a mess with really weak car springs. It drooped on the lower left side and that drove me nuts. I grabbed some Moog 6381 springs and started trimming. I cut the right side a little more (cutoff wheel in 8th turn increments) until it sat perfect.

Now onto little detail things. Someone had painted the center of the headlight "buckets" black instead of leaving the chrome alone. I stripped off the black and even though the original chrome is a bit pitted, it will hold me over until I get new ones.

On to the turn signals. I've always disliked the big, fat factory black paint "stripe" inside the chrome bezels and was going to change that issue. After taking the fronts off and seeing the "reflection area" painted grey on one side and white on the other, I had to fix it. After masking it off and scuffing everything down, I poofed a little Krylon silver to even it all out. I stripped the poorly masked black paint around the bezels and brushed in yellow to fill in the gap. I'm a custom painter/pinstriper, so this wasn't a real big deal. So now the area behind the clear front lenses, looks nice and clean and the yellow bezels tightens up the lights a bit.
