Re: Wagon up bringing / your start in wagon family?

Took my first license test in a 60 Ford Ranch Wagon. 292/3spd. Mom paid $500 for it in 67. Super reliable but had an appetite for pinon seals.
I owned a 68 Ford Ranch Wagon. 302/FMX. Paid $500 for it in 76. Drove it coast to coast and up and down the East coast several times when I was in the Navy. It had close to 300 K on it when I traded it in for a new 87 TBird. Got $500 trade in LOL.

I learned to drive in my mom's 66 Nova wagon. Later on I put some Cragar's on it to drive while while my hot rods were broke. It looked cool and was great on dates.

Re: Wagon up bringing / your start in wagon family?

My Mom had a 65 Impala wagon when I was 1 which was traded in for a 69 Ford full size wagon with 390. Lots of trips in the 3rd seat. This is my 68 Impala 396 1 of 2240 made. Original paint/patina, I am second owner and was parked in 88 after everything was rebuilt except alt which along with the starter are original. Just the wheels and battery were changed.

Re: Wagon up bringing / your start in wagon family?

My start in wagon family... I had a 454 that I needed a "roller" for. When looking in the newspaper (in the 90's) I found an ad that read, 1964 Malibu SS Pro street , no engine , for sale or trade. I called and asked what would you trade for? He says, what do you have? I said " I do custom paint ". He says he has a 1966 malibu wagon (highly optioned) that he needs the body and paint done. So we did a trade out. In the process of having my hands on that body for that long... and all intimate like...I fell in love with wagons! The 1965 Malibu 4door wagon I have now is my third and final wagon build. If you told Mr. Cool (back in the 80's)with his black leather jacket and his 69 Camaro , that he would like wagons.. I would have said you were crazy!

Also no wagon in our family while growing up. However, my first car (and only wagon) was a 61 Comet stationwagon:

(Not the actual car...)

Re: Wagon up bringing / your start in wagon family?

58 chevy wagon, primer red, power nothing, my mom hated it. One nightmare trip to Yosemite made her a believer
in options, so she sold the wagon and bought a 62 Coupe DeVille from her brother, and never looked back.
Twenty years later she tried again with a 68 Impala Wagon, that lasted ten years till she bailed and bought a Lincoln.
I have that 68 now, along with a 69 Wagoneer ski mobile and a 73 parts donor. My first car was a 68 El Camino,
but if I had had two brain cells that worked I would have bought my friend's mother's 66 Tempest wagon. Whoopsie.
This isn't the one, closest pic to it I could find. I love the clamshell tailgate!
